Long weekend coming up, so i'm planning to head out with the camera. What i
havent' worked out yet is where i might go , so i'm open to suggestion.

Not adverse to a small hike to get there. Within a short drive of brisbane
would be nice. A preference for nature or landmarks, as opposed to
architecture. Something relatively 'easy' to photograph would be nice, i'm
still learning a lot.

any suggestions ?

Brisbane has fantastic trees. There are many Poincianas of fascinating
shapes as street trees throughout the city. Some fig trees are enormous.

You could try the grove of Jacarandas in New Farm Park, and marvel at
the 'curtain' fig while you're there. (Six months ago the Jacarandas
were in flower - a magnificent sight!)

If you travel to Lamington National Park (behind the Gold Coast: 1-2
hours drive) there are some magnificent rainforest trees to behold. But
perhaps you don't need to go that far.

Many gardens have wonderful Bougainvilleas. There are Hibiscus still in
flower in many places too. The mangroves along the river have their own
beauty as well.

This is a start, anyway. I follow up with more ideas if I think of them.

A while back I took some nice shots at "Cloudlands" but I think that it's no
longer suitable!

There are some great gardens/plants out at UQ near the ginormous fountain,
from memory. New Farm Park is okay, but better are the City Botanic Gardens
(parking near there can be dodgy, though). Also up towards the Sunshine
Coast - the pineapple etc farms, pine plantations and the Glasshouse
Mountains.

a friend suggested those too. Looks like i have a handful of places to visit
now. Also noticed that the nearby reservoir has some nice vistas.

The Mt Cootha Botanical gardens has some great natural features, plenty of wildlife, lots of macro and botanical opportunities as well. Usually no parking problems, might have a lot of people around through Easter though.

Where ever did you get the idea the Mt Cootha Botanical gardens had natural
features? This whole place was man made with bulldozers and is carefully
manicured buy a team of horticulturalists... Hardly "great natural features"
although it does have some unique photographic opportunities.
