Hey everyone,
I was wanting to ask for some advice with some dvd's I watched recently. The other night I was watching The Royal Tenenbaums (R1 version) and noticed through some of the dialogue scenes the audio seems to switch off when there is hardly any sound. It was most noticable when most of the family are waiting in the hospital and Bill Murray is talking with Gwyenth Paltrow and when he stops talking I couldnt really hear any ambient background noise then when she starts talking again it suddenly comes back and then dims when she stops talking. I also noticed it in American beauty (R1) when Kevin Spacey towards the end is talking with Mena Suvari about his daughter. It sounds a bit weird but is it my equipment or the dvd's themselves?
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Your description of the dropout you experienced will be easy to test if someone else has the same dvd, that would be the first test I guess. Have you tried the disc in another player to see if it is the same? Also what mode are you playing the disc in 5.1, 2 ch stereo etc? It might also help to provide a bit of a run down on what your system consists of and how it is configured.

1. No I haven't tried it in another dvd player but I dont know anyone with 6 channel setup. But I just wanted to get some opinions as to whether anyone else had the same problem.
2. I was playing both in DTS 5.1, I had a quick listen on DD 5.1 for Royal tenenbaums and it sounded like there was the same problem.
3. My configuration, ok my dvd player is a Panasonic s75 with a built in DD and DTS decoder. Using the decoders I output it through 6 channel output to my Pioneer stereo that uses 6 channel input. Im not sure if there is anything else you need?

Does your amp have onboard decoding also?

No thats why I had to get a dvd player that could decode it. The stereo can distribute dts and dd properly it just cant decode.

I only asked as some people hook it up analouge 6 channel to get DTS as some earlier amps had DD and the 6 channel input but not DTS. I was hoping you at least had DD so that you could try that and see if the problem is in the decoding or the source. In that case I guess you'll need someone else that has the same disc to try it out. Trying your disc in someone elses player will also help to identify where the problem is.

Oh ok, all I know from the manual on my stereo is it states that it can distribute dolby d discs and dts discs as long as the source can decode it. Well thanks for helping
