Hello
I am thinking of upgrading my DVD player. Is it worth getting a DVD-A or SACD compatible player ? If so any suggestions
I have a Denon 2802 Amp.

well I would look at the range of SACD and DVD-A titles available. Do any of them interest you?
What about the price? I think they are around $30 - $40 each, you need to find this out. Are you happy to pay that for one title?
Whats wrong with your current player? Is it only this functionality that you want to add?
If nothing is wrong and all you want is to listen to SACDs and DVD-As then I would suggest a standalone player as it would be better at performing this job.

thanks for repsonse.
I currently have a Pioneer DVD 344 model. I find it a bit noisy. I'm thinking of either buying a good quality standalone CD player or a DVD player that have good quality audio playback. Any suggestions welcome
As for DVD-A titles, there are a few that interest me, but is it a dying medium ?

Try Primare for a good quality DVD player, classy too! They start from about $2k up to $3k.... very nice ;)
For a more affordable option, have a look at the Pioneer model that supports the SACD and DVD-A formats. I think the superceded one was the 655, but not sure on the new ones model number.

they are not a dying mediam AFAIK but they are not a booming one either. None of those new audio formats are I think mainly due to range and price.
Id go with the one with a greater and expanding range. I would also go to a store that had one setup nicely to hear it at its best to ensure it was worth the extra cash.
You may also need to upgrade your amp to handle it, you will need to research this as Im not sure. Also ask at the audio store you visit.
