Was thinking of buying this dvd player but want to know whether or not this player is multiregion out of the box. If it is not does anyone know what mod it needs to make it region free?
Also, has anyone bought one of these players? If so what are your impressions of it?

I was at JB today and the sales guy told me that it is region free out of the box. I am doing a net search now to confirm that before I make a purchase.

There is a sticker on the box either a green dot or some other coloured dot. Best price I have seen is about $287 including the five free DVDs and five rentals.

I'm looking to buy a pioneer 355 dvd player or similar, but dont want to pay over the odds, any idea of the best way to go about it.
Due to work restrictions I dont have much shopping time so if any one knows of any good deals, or shops that are regularly cheeper they woiuld be very handy.
Cheers for your time

Welcome to EYO... :)
Let us now what region you are in and some of the regulars can chip in. I think the street price for this unit is close to $250~$260 including the five free movies, if anyone tries to sell you one without the flicks don't pay any more than $210.
Look out for the coloured dot on the box to ensure factory multi regioned.

I'm in Melbourne, at the moment, but if its multiregional does it matter which region I'm in? Also as I'm new to Australia where is good to buy electronics? I've herd JB HiFi is good but how do ther'e prices compare?
Cheers

Ok... current region doesn't matter, if you get multi region any region disc is playable.
For stores, JB is ok, also try Trevor Lees in Kew. I am sure others can chip in if they have seen a good price around the traps.

Hi,
I'm also looking into getting the multi-region Pioneer 355. Does anyone know if it plays Regional Code Enhancement without a problem? One salesman I spoke to said it did, but another (at the same store no less) said it wasn't even a multi-region player. I don't have an RCE disc, but may run into them (my old Toshiba reportedly has a problem with them).
Also - Any other multi-region players worth investigating: I hope to give a low priced multi-zone player as a gift but am hoping for the right info.
Thanks.

I have a Pioneer dv555 and a friend has a dv355
They are both multizone out of the box. Macro is on.
good picture chip - nice crisp picture.
They play all format disks I have tried fine on both DVD+/-R/RW but not DVD Audio or SACD. Plays RCE.
Only trouble I had so far is with XSVCD that it skipped on a bit but maybe it was my media and bit rate settings.
I tried a few players b4 getting the Pioneer and am happy with the Pioneer and good replacement for the old Toshiba sd-k310 that wouldnt play any R/RW media CD or DVD.
