XMS 250 picture problems

i just bought the XMS 250 it plays VCD's and mp3s ok but the dvd picture jitters i have an old tv with a co-ax plus but my dvd goes through the VCR i took it to my friends place and it works fine here is my setup

foxtel -> VCR -> TV

DVD
so does anyone have any answers i can fix this? or do i just need to get a new tv? thanks
