hi this is my first thread here so many questions to ask,i am new to projectors but have read reviews etc for the last month,i want to purchase one now so its decision time
1,, i am thinking of the panasonic ptae 500 u,this seems to be the best one i have read about for the price i can afford.$3500 is best price i can see locally here in adelaide.i will only be using it for dvd and some sport from local tv transmissions. i will still use my sony 68 cm for normal tv.projector screen will be above entertainment unit and will project from 12 foot.viewing distance will be just in front of that at about 11 foot.i was given a demo at harvey normans of two different cables one was a cheap composite 2 metere cable the other a 15 metere component cable .they were like chalk and cheese the difference was dramatic in favour of the component cable but so to was the price about $30 i think for the cheap one and 500 for the component. also i will need a screen i am thinking a 100 inch screen but not sure on what type and cost of these screens,i will have to go for the manual pull down type because of budget
any suggestions would be appreciated
cheers fergi

$500 for a 15 meter component cable!
Just make your own from good RG6 coax cable and crimp, or screw on
connectors.

Good Lord!! An excellent 15m component cable will not cost you more than
$70. And that is using gold plated connectors....Where is this rip-off
happening? Whoever is trying to sell you this for $500 needs to be
horse-whipped and then staked on the ghround in the hot sun with ants
crawling up him and eating him alive!
There are some bloody shysters around!
cheers

Can i recommend staying clear of harvey normans, i'm also about to get a 500
in adelaide, HN's have no idea..... Truscotts also sell them along with
radio rentals. There are places that'll ship from other states for around
$3000 but the lowest i've found here is $3500 if you find you can get it
cheaper than this i'd love to know. good luck !

Dont know about other wholesalers but my supplier now sells the ae500 for a
bit under $2500 plus gst. if anybody wants one at say $2800 plus freight let
me know. These are australian units with full local warranty and support
I'm in qld but my wholesaler has branches in all capitals. I dont normally
tout for business in these forums but when I see some of the other prices
being quoted I couldnt help!

You could also try http://www.neversoft.com.au/
I've been looking around for a Panasonic AE500 in Brisbane or off the
web. Both JB Hifi and Domayne will do them for $2900. JB wanted to
see a competitors quote, but that shouldn't be too hard to source.
They are on display at both Domayne (valley) and Harvey Norman (in the
mall). Interestignly, the Domayne store has it alongside the $12K DLP
Marantz, Sony HS?? and another LCD Hitachi. The Panasonic has easily
the best picture of all of them.
Good luck. I hope to get mine in the next couple of months as our
house gets built.
