Are you trying to remove scratches, or just clean fingerprints and muck off the disc?
For the latter I like to use those refresher towels that come with the KFC, they seem to work well for all the bloody rentals that I hire and are worse for wear.

Havn't really had to clean too many scratches off discs though, but depending on how bad they are, if you have a video ezy (some other video stores have them too) close by, they run a service for $5 to have a disc ran through their disc doctor machine and it takes a minute layer off and the scratches with it.

For finger marks and general grime, I use Spray & Wipe and a soft tissue.

The vid shop uses Eucalyptus oil but i havent the foggiest where to get them from, plus its prob expensive. The KFC wipes and spray and wipe stuff sounds like it'll be cheap and effective tho so thanks...

I've used the cleaning machine thing b4 too, but at 5 bucks a pop, dont think its worth it.

Don't use those - they are abrasive cleaners. Use isopropyl alcohol-based CD cleaner.

Unfortunately it doesn't clean up sticky muck on rental DVDs -- what do you expect from a non-abrasive cleaner? :p

you can get the Eucalyptus oil in pretty much any supermarket. It'll most likely be in the cleaners isle.

As for the cleaners being abrasive, thats true, but your not soaking the discs in the stuff for hours upon hours that would require it to eat into plastic. You can always give them a wipe over with a clean soft cloth afterwards.

So in other words, it IS safe to clean my dvds with (so long as its not soaked in the stuff):

Eucalyptus Oil
Wet Wipes from KFC
Windex but not Spray and Wipe :dD

ive tried all sorts of cleaning methods over the last few years until i had a disc that wouldnt play properly so i thought if it wont play i cant stuff it up,so i turned on the hot water tap let the water get really hot for a few seconds then held the disc under the hot water for about 10 seconds wiped it off with a clean paper towel did it once more in the hot tap and then wiped dry with new clean paper towel, works amazing and thats what i use even on grimy rental dvd,s that play up,try it its worth the effort and no oil or crap left on the disc
cheers

I use a high performance cloth which I think is made by, or called, scotchbrite. You can get them from supermarkets for around $4. Wiping from inside out NEVER in a circular or back and forth motion.

The key is defnitely to wipe from the inside to the outside edge ;)
