Hey Guys
A question...
I have a GRUNIG XENTIA WIDE-SCREEN TV with the ability to receive RGB through SCART. At the moment I'm using a SCART to RCA video cable to go into my AMP to avoid changing channels on both TV and AMP. The quality is not bad, but would it be that much better if I went and bought a SCART to SCART to go from the STU directly to TV (SPDIF for audio)?
I also wanted to know, if I use SCART to SCART will my TV pick up audio from there as well as I don't want it to. Can I disable this? On the TV or STU?
Thanks,
fixler.

If you use scart to scart from foxtel stu to tv you will get 576i resolution.
I think for svideo you only get 400i.
RCA will either have the the resolution as svideo or worse.
The picture quality will be much better if using RGB via SCART - make sure
you set the SCART output on the STB to be RGB though. Note that you also
get widescreen switching (if enabled on programming) and automatic switch
over to the STU when you turn it on.
Most TVs will automatically switch between RGB or composite video on the
RGB-enabled SCART socket - normally just AV1. AV2/3 etc are often
switchable between S-video and composite although all TVs differ.
Audio will pass through to the TV as well though. Turn down the volume on
the TV (as I do) or physically butcher the SCART cable - pin-outs are an
easy "google" away...?

Misconeception there.
The 576 refers to the number of horizintal lines which is fixed as each line
is transmitted separately. All types of connectors will provide the 576
lines.
What I assume you are thinking of is effective lines of horizontal
resolution. If you were to draw lots of vertical lines on a piece of paper,
this measures how many you actually distinguish when transmitted. Better
quality connectors will allow more lines to be distinguisable.
