Hi
This is probably not the best place to post this but I am sure some of you DVD watchers have got a Rear Projection TV. I am contemplating buying either a Sony, Toshiba or Panasonic RPTV around AUS$5000, and will appreciate any comments or general opinions any one of you may have.
Many thanks.

I would advise delaying on the projection Telly if you have that kind of money to spend...
Plasma screens are vastly improving... so too the home cinema projectors
Have a squiz at some of the Fujitsu plasmas as well as the new Pioneer and Sony home projectors...

NEXT GENERATION WALL HANGING TV's ARRIVING: OK... here goes Part I
The Flat Screen Ultra Thin ( about TWO Inches) and Ultra Light weight 16 X 9 TV's.
Some wall hangers have been around for years now and have had unbelievable high
prices. Between you and me... the picture quality was not all that great either...
Now comes a new generation and a New Technology..... Organic, yup! Let's call the
old systems TFT/Plasma like your Laptops, Notebook computers and the 32" to 60"
behemoths at airports and sporting facilities walls. The new technology OLED or
Organic Light Emitting Diode is FAR Cheaper, Very Light and NO HEAT & only
29 pounds instead of 65 pounds for a 32" and 35 pounds for a 50 incher as opposed to
85 or more pounds for the old Plasma. $999US may actually prove too high a price
believe it or not for the 32" and even the 50" could be less than 15 hundred once
the dust settles. Oh, and we are talking 2002 gang... not some pie in the sky 5 to 10
years down the road. All these plants are coming on line as we speak here. This
OLED is not only far SHARPER, but it may Only come in HD as 1280 X 1024 would
be the bottom resolution! Already we have 2048 X 1536 @ 60Hz has been successfully demonstrated at 120" diagonal level! The temptation will be to jump at crashing Plasma
prices as these new OLED's will be all over us in weeks and not months and Plasma
inventories will have to be unloaded. Remember, Plasma resolution actually sucks
compared to this new Technology...
Plasma screens ?
I read that there life-span is not very long at all (compared to CRT)
About 1 year of conntinuous use as the gas inside each little pixel burns out, and will nolonger run. whereas a CRT can last for as long as 10Years of continuous usage, for a good quality Tube..........
As for rear projections, im not sure on the quality or life-span of these......... but as of this moment id leave the plasma displays well alone, unless u have money to burn.......

Hope you enjoy your Sharp. I'm giving digital PJs a miss, and am on the lookout for a CRT beast.

but truthfully it is a real beast in my opinion it is one of the best projectos that i have ever seen for my small lounge room it projects the whole wall with a massive graphic crystal display
* it is not low quality res projector
*it is top of the line and the only other places i have seen the same one that i have is sega world and greater unioun (sendstadium size)
*well worth it ;-)

no offense, but 640x480 is lo-res if you ask me.
Any decent projector should be able to handle true 1024x768 resolution (without any gimmicky resizing) IMHO .
But of you get a great picture from your PJ, then that's all that matters. I'll take your word that it is a fantastic picture.
Sit back, and lap it up :) .
