I don't think it commonly exists yet, but hacked firmware updates on most
players will let you write at 8x on 4x media...

DVD-R 8X is getting delays after delays. Each month they tell me it is
only a few weeks away. They have been telling me since January its
only next month. Testing and more testing is going on.

I doubt we will see DVD-R 8X media here in any spindle form for some
months.

The only DVD-R 8X I have seen are in jewel cases and they are not
cheap and with the currency down overall from a couple of months ago
prices on DVD media are not going to be as cheap as they have been.

I have gone and ordered in more DVD-R 4X as I can't see any DVD-R 8X
been ready for at least another two to three months.

There is DVD+R 8X available but my customers only want DVD-R 8X.
I get about 2 enquiries into DVD+R media a year so virtually no depand
for these.

What? Verbatim have DVD-R 8X DVD media. While at the time of writing I have
to place a backorder because of the fact the first shippment was already
taken, it is out there already in some stores. Don't know what they are
charging but it wouldn't be much more than $3 each I would think.

Mitsubishi has a DVD-R 8X out but only in Jewel Cases.
Mitsubishi also make Verbatim DVD-R 8X. Recently Verbatim spindles of
50 DVD-R 4X dropped to $89.95 to make way for their 8X. I don't sell
Verbatim DVD Media. The only Verbatim media I sell is the Verbatim
94366 CDR media.

The high quality DVD media I sell is Orion and RiDATA G04.
The RiDATA G04 has RiDATA printed on the inner rim of the disc to show
it is a genuine RiDATA disc.

I sell to many DVD Authoring businesses across Australia and all
demand a high quality disc that doesn't cost a arm and a leg.

I set a very high standard for high quality products and if something
doesn't match my high standards then I don't sell that product.

Its no coincidence that I only sold Pioneer DVD burners for the past
few years over all the rest. Now the latest LG drives in the LG 4082B
are also so good that I will sell them.

The same goes for DVD media. I also get feedback by the thousands of
clients I have going right back to 1993. Many have tried and been
burnt by certain brands of hardware and media. I like to sell a
product that there is going to be no problems. The only problems that
do occur is if a customer is new to the world of DVD burning and needs
to be shown what software to use and why and the process to get that
perfect DVD burn.

It is why you will never see a customer complain about a product I
have sold. I give so much free support and help way into the evening
and up to about 1:am Perth WA time.

I wonder if it's gonna be like CDR media, where they tend to recommend
that you don't burn at full speed, to avoid errors...

Now the latest LG drives in the LG 4082B

------------------

WooHoo.

That's the drive I have!!

Have you found any firmware hacks that allow me to burn 4x at 8x speed or do
you recommend hanging out for proper 8x media?

What is wrong with 8x DVD+R my LG Drive takes it no probs. Is it more
expensive than DVD-R media?
