View Full Version : foxtel without a landline?
hi,
if i want to cancel my phone connection ie: to avoid telstra line rental,
will i still be able to get foxtel ? speaking to foxtel they seem to suggest
its required, i know it wasnt when i had analogue and am guessing it
shouldn't be necessary - given imp not interested in any interactive
gimmicks.
(am not speaking of satellite, as imp in a cable ready group of units)
thanks

You don't need it unless you want to use the fox box office and the other interactive services.. That way any changes you want you will have to call foxtel

yep, I too asked them this question, and that's the answer.
Go right ahead and cancel your Telstra bullshit service, I did along time
ago and live quite happily with my Optus mobile.
As for my net access, well, that's on someone else's phone line in the house
with my ADSL on it, so its all good :)

you should look at a www.packet8.net service, you can make all the local
calls you want here in Australia for $49 a month over your broadband
connection (uses a regular telephone).
also includeas calls to the usa/canada and about 6 asia countries as well.
if you use the word 'source' as the affiliate code they'll knock of $20 (and
deduct $5 from my bill).
Cheers,
Dean

Would you like to rephrase your question in English Anthony?
I'm assuming you mean this;
Click on the international plans on the left hand side, look at the first
plan, Freedom unlimited plus Asia.
Cheers,
Dean

Fine for you, but not those who don't want to pay fixed-to-mobile call costs
when they want to ring you.

Apparently less than 10% of accidents are caused by drivers exceeding the speed
limit.
thanks for the replies. can i ask what the consensus is on the interactive
services; are they worth having or not. im guessing theyre not worth the
cost of telstras monthly pound of flesh.
also, are there any other 'gotchas' i ought to know about before signing up?

Depends on ur liking of sport.. and picking ur own news... These both need the phone line one would guess.. But then some people were speculating at the fact that this is all stored on the box and all the info is there all the time it's just a matter in most cases of the once a month downloads..
As for the other persons line in the house.. why not get another ADSL filter and connect via that... No real need for a Telstra paid directly phone line.. If your happy to ring foxtel to book a box office movie then ur set

Currently the ONLY think that uses the dial up is FBO - no other current
"interactive" services uses the return path - so I hardly think Telstra is
getting it's pound of flesh from this

Nope they don't - only FBO uses the phone line currently
