Garden State will be released on dvd in the US & Canada on December 28, 2004.This looks really good for lovers of indie films as well as Natalie Portman fans.I saw the trailer for this a few months back and have been looking forward to it ever since.

What there saying on IMDB

Lots of positive feedback at Amazon.

A few r2 (UK) releases could be intriguing - a couple of UK films, Flight of the Doves, Cockleshell Heroes - but what I'm most interested in from the January releases though are two Burt Reynolds 1970s films - White Lightning and the sequel Gator - which are both listed as going to be released in widescreen, whereas the US region 1 DVDs of both films are apparently fullscreen.

There's one due out in r1 land on Jan. 18th that couldbe worthwhile - The Ballad of the Sad Cafe. Was really fond of the novel when I read it all those years ago, so this film might be enticing.

Check out the soundtrack as well, it's a great mix. :)

January 25th in region 1 land sees the DVD release of a film I've been waiting a long, long time to see again...Death Hunt with Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin...if its the quality that Anchor Bay usually treat older movies with, it should be worth it. Feb 1st sees the release of a quiet, underrated Walter Matthau cop film, The Laughing Policeman, with great support from Bruce Dern in his usual slimy mode: can't tell if the low-priced DVD is in widescreen though; I hope so. Same week sees another curio, the Michael Douglas film The Star Chamber, a noirish meditation on American justice (again, I couldn't tell if the DVD is in widescreen).

I rented it out last week.I had never seen it before but i thought it was very good for a movie of the vintage.The whole thing is all very predictable of course with the standard ending for this type of movie.I think i would rather go to a movie like Terrence Malick's "Badlands" as a beter example of the genre for people looking to add that sort of movie to there collection but it's still well worth a look.

Heard from a friend that you can catch Star Wars episode 3 trailers somewhere. Must check it out on the net. Not a big fan of the new trilogy though, Lucas has left them for too long and so much better movies and effects have come out since.

I recently purchased the apparently OOP (they told me) r4 of the TV mini-series Guyana Tragedy, with Powers Boothe as Rev. Jim Jones. Thus, the completist in me is glad to know that the lesser-known exploitation-quickie Guyana: Crime of the Century, with Stuart Whitman as Jones, is due for release in r1 land Feb 15th. Might make for some nice comparison viewing.

This Girls Life r1 us looks like it could be worth a look for people that are interested in movies that explore the darker side of humanity.James Woods gives another cutting edge performance in this film by all reports.Now there's a man that was robbed of an oscar if ever there was one :rolling:

In r1 land on Feb 22 are a couple maybe worth looking out for: a two-disc special edition of Michael Mann's great DeNiro / Pacino thriller Heat, with a Mann commentary and apparently 11 (!) additional scenes making the running time for this one now listed as over four hours. Others of interest include an apparently two-disc version of the Jess Franco sex-and-sadism classic Venus in Furs ;) (hopefully uncut), a Lucio Fulci thriller Lizard in a Woman's Skin (what a great title that is), Barbara Streisand's On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, the George Hamilton parody Zorro the Gay Blade (a film perhaps doomed by its title) and a curio of a sequel, Butch and Sundance: the Early Days (with Tom Berenger and William Katt instead of Newman and Redford). Hmm.

Universe Laser from hong kong have released a german movie called Tattoo .It's a bit of a Se7en wannabe by the looks of it but for those looking for something a bit on the gruesome side this might be the go.

R1 land on March 1st sees the following oddments and curios I'd add to my ever-expanding to-get list if I could find it...hmm, just note them here for the moment...an early Joel Schumacher / Mr. T comedy, D.C. Cab; the great 1970 Peter Boyle arch-bigot movie Joe (very cheap DVD: too much to hope this counter-culture antidote is in widescreen - Susan Saranon's start); Stallone and Assante in Paradise Alley (Stallone also directs pretty well here from memory); and Richard Gere in Yanks.

February in UK r2 land sees a few curios I'd like to get if future budgeting allows: Bronson and Toshiro Mifune in the samurai in the West movie Red Sun (fullscreen only alas); the Ken Wahl flick The Soldier (probably fullscreen too alas); Terence Hill and Bud Spencer in the spaghetti western Boot Hill (only if its widescreen); Gary Cooper western Garden of Evil; curio western Warlock;

March 14th sees more Westerns (the classic Anthony Mann / Gary Cooper, Man of the West; Yul Brynner in Invitation to a Gunfighter; the 1962 version of Geronimo) and another Bronson, cast very much against type opposite a malevolent Anthony Perkins in Someone Behind the Door (a must for me if research reveals it in widescreen, unlike other regions);
