Hello,

After reading this NG for a while, I purchased the Topfield 5000.
In our area we receive 3 channels digitally and the remaining 2 analog.
Having the areal cable connected to the STB, from there I go with the
first scart out to the TV and the other to the VCR, how do I receive the
analog channels on the TV/VCR? Do I have to chain areal cables
additionally to the TV and VCR or is the STB capable of giving the
analog signal through the scart cable?

I have a DVD player too which goes into the other scart input of the TV.
How do I watch now movies from the VCR since the scart connections are
used for the incoming connection from the STB and DVD and the TV only
has 2 inputs?

Hopefully somebody can help.

The Topfield manual is of no help at all. It is actually shocking...

Basically, you have to either chain the aerial cables (wall point -->
STB --> VCR --> TV) and then tune the VCR and analog channels on the TV
or buy yourself a switchbox (this will add an input for the VCR to the
TV).

You're using SCART, so you might have trouble getting a SCART switchbox
- try Electronics Boutique, they got an "AV Control Center" this month
with SCART.

Or,

The Topfield has a second SCART port at the back -- get yourself a SCART
to 6 x RCA adaptor and plug the VCR into the STB's VCR SCART port.
You'll then press a button on the Topfield remote to see the VCR and
you'll be able to record the digital onto the VCR (not that you'd need
to with the hard drive).

You have a DVD player with SCART? Hook this up to the Toppy VCR input, as
it will pass thru SVIDEO, Composite and RGB thru from the VCR scart
connector to the TV. If your DVD player is fully wired SCART, it will
assert an AV line and automatically trigger the Topfield passthru. If you
are connecting with an adapter (non fully wired scart) then you have to
initiate the passthrough by either putting the Topfield to standby, or
hitting the TV/Sat button in the top middle of the remote.
I have my VCR, STB and DVD player connected to just 2 SCART inputs on my
Loewe this way.

Thanks to both of you. It is sorted. :-)

One thing I can't sort out myself- Ten and Seven is not broadcasting
digitally at the moment. Seven will broadcasting shortly, Ten maybe in
2005 so I still have to have aerial cable connected to the TV/VCR or I
just forget about Ten (which is probably easier).

Anybody from the Ten Network reading here? Tell your bosses.

Mt. Bellenden Kerr is the repeater.
