Has anyone gotten there hands on the R4 and been able to compare to the R1.
I have read the review at Michael DVD, and they are awarding the DD5.1 R4 version as better than the DTS 5.1 from R1 due to the DTS making not much difference and the R4 having superior picture quality.
DTS I think is always better, more fuller -- but wanted a 2nd opinion from any folk here that have done a comparison.
I had the R1 until recently and do not recall it being excessively dark, and sure the soundtrack was not dominate but DTS is always good

dts isn't always superior.... although it is probably 80% of the time IMHO.

True, but I prefer picture quality over dts, especially in a movie like that.
but sorry Ork's haven't seen the R1.

the only time l would go and get DTS is in a action movie where the sound helps with the overall experience :dD

I think I'll need to check some side by side screen shots... Maybe contact the reviewer to see if he has some to email.
I tend to go for sound over picture myself, naturally after getting the director cut or original true cut of the film...
Bit of luck maybe dvd beaver will do a comparison. They provide some great side by side shots, kinda crazy to see how something can look so different from each master

This movie isn't a slick cut with a knife hi-res production. It is very soft focus and grainy movie as the director intended.I saw it in the theater and my r1 dvd looks exactly the same as it did then.I honestly don't think a pal transfer is going to show you that much more than the ntsc except maybe a bit more grain.

that is one thing I wanted to hear, that it looked how it did in the cinema... That's taken me to the R1.. Maybe R3 as it is a direct port, and might not have that damn forced trailers at the start which plague R1 Universal titles, specially the good ones like this and Swimming Pool

Academy Award results for film we're total bull shit this year.
Sean Penn I cannot comment as I have not seen the film, but he probably deserved it -- but as for best film, the result was a bloody joke.

Yeh, Sean Penn defiantly deserved it. He was excellent in that film (Mystic River). I should note that I havn't seen many of the other contenders..
As for LOTR and the best picture.. I walked out of the room in distress upon hearing it had won. Best Picture should have gone to Mystic River too.
