Hi all,
I just bought bf1942, it rocks, plays beautifully with no problesm what so ever. EXCEPT and this is a biggie since this game is solely based on multiplayer. I cannot seem to play in servers with a few people 10to20 i wont even bother tryin to connect to people with over that. So what i would like to know if there are any dialupper people out there who play the game with a stable ping? Australia ones specially. im on iprimus 56k, and there doesnt seem to be a hope n hell to play it properly online.
Still the game is worth the money i bought it for.
Anywho, i think game companies should list in the Recommend checklist that a Broadband connection is needed for decent online play. That might be over the top, but i dont see any chance of iprimus 56k being able to let you play that game without moving at 0.53654 frames per second.
Thanks.

Hi,
I agree with your recommendation.
This game i'm told takes 50mb approx per hour to play online this is a bit much for a dial up modem. They should state it is recommended to play online using broadband.
Thanks

50 megs is alot for a modem. Would you know the rate the game sends data back and forth? i think i heard cs does like 3k a sec or somethin

Hi,
No sorry I don't but you can get an approx average:
(50 * 1024) / (60 * 60) = 14.22k a sec
Going by this approx rate it would be very hard on a dial up modem even when it has a good connection. It would probably result in skipped frames.
A solution for you is to run your machine as the server and let others join your game. If your machine is fast enough it should be OK although others may not want to play since they probably wouldn't get a decent ping. Worth a shot though.
Thanks

56k modems download at a Max speed of 5.6k per second, (but this depends on the data compression, text can download quicker).
I've found it hard to play any games online without having a ping of about 200. Although I did get pretty good at Elite Force even with this amount of lag.
with the quality of the games now though, to play online broadband would be a nesecity. Still great to play over a LAN though.

Just go to a LAN, heaps better than online gaming IMHO.

Yeah true LANS would be the way to go definately, im thinking your talking about a lan cafe? fair enuff...i just cant tolerate kids screaming at me after i fragged em a couple of times. Man there should be some sort of Adults only LAN cafe's or something...where its 18+ to enter and you have to show an identification ok way of topic, but yes getting back to ping's when i connect at the fastest speed on iprimus, i usually download or play older games hl based engine's etc slower than say if i connect at a wierd speed of 42.6Kbps. Dialup is a joke full stop. What makes it worse is the line quality in my area, i cant get cable coz theres no cables installed hell we have foxtel on satellite. Every broadband adsl supplier claims that my area is ready for adsl, i doubt it,the local exchange isnt 3~4km away its atleast 5~6km. I could go on and on.
Thanks,

If you look into it, in sydney there should be a heap of LAN groups that you could go to, I think the gist of it is a whole heap of nerds (sorry, people who have a better relationship with computers than people :P) get together in a scout hall or something with there computers for an all day and night game-o-thon.
Apparently there are huge turnouts to some of them, lots of diffrent games being played with prizes and stuff.
