Well i finally played an xbox is the comfort of a living room and not at k-mart.
Impressions.
First game I played was HALO.. It looks nice, but graphically wise wsa nothing exceptional over say 007:Nightfire. However the controller mechanism with the dual analogue stick was much more fluid in motion than the PS2 controller.
Next game was Sega GT 2002.. What a scam having this shared with the other game.. Just like a GT3 clone. Im sick of GT3 so this game didnt excite my interest.
Final game was that Jet set whatever.. Looked and felt crap.
So overall I was impressed with the xbox, except I still found the controller a bit bulky.
Did these titles make me wanna buy an xbox? No it didnt, but if they have an exclusive which does interest me, I will know the xbox is worthy to use

I have the massive pack too.
Perhaps you should spend some more time with Jet Set Radio Future, for a skater it is suprisingly good and challenging.
GT2002 was a let down for me too... Project Gotham is better.
I'd buy a PS2 for GT3 only, it is still the best realistic driving game.

well as the xbox is not mine, I cannot spend any more time. But it just did not grab me. If I want a game like that Ill stick to Tony Hawks or the roller blade equivalent.
But I'll remain with my PS2, which has a controller I still prefer. It felt so good in the hands this morning, after the xbox controller last night.

Why people buy xboxes is beyond me. Well actually, if you don't own a PC or a DVD player or a CD player then I guess it can try to comprimise for your losses. Lets see... I know personally: 1 person with an xbox (who dosen't have a cd player, compuer or dvd player), 3 people with PS2s and lets see, myself included - 7 people with GameCubes (one of them also owns a PS2 and was counted in both groups).
Ok and then there's Andrew who owns an XBOX game but not an XBOX and is planning on buying one instead of borrowing (and lets face it the guy lends his game to mr xbox owner). So yeah that's MY xbox experience. I don't find the machine as sociable as GC.

So if I know more people who own XBOX rather than Gamecube (other than the guys on here who have, them, I know of NO ONE that owns one), then I can say that in MY xbox experience, it's the more "sociable" machine :rolling:

I do not care much for MGS, but if they took Final Fantasy I would have to convert to that system...

I don't think you'll see ANY squaresoft titles on the x-box. If I remember correctly squaresoft said they wouldn't program for the x-box, as well as a couple of other game companies too.

Give them enough money and exclusitivity and they'll come running. The word of companies means very little these days.

Like everyone else here, you are entitled to YOUR opinion.
I have a DVD, 2 CD Transports, a MD player and and X-box hooked up in the lounge. Plus 3 computers in the spare room. The DVD/CD argument didn't bother me one iota.
The X-box makes a great party juke box withought having to lug a PC into the lounge or run long cables. The best part being people don't have to rummage through my CD's, great idea.

Yeah I do not think Square will got to Microsoft, as the x-box is not selling to crash hot in Japan. North America it is going terrific apparently..
And as Japan is major core market for Square they will stay where they are or even go to Game Cube .... either way I will follow. I think they are already developing Final Fantasy Tactics for GC.. Not enough to make me purchase as it is not the traditional RPG slendor

Good on you orko for giving it a go.After looking at ps2 in the shop i come to the conclusion that theres not alot of difference in the consoles gamewise either.Controllers are a personal preference and after a long time of playing a psx controller i found the xbox controller to be large at first but am used to it now.

Hey Orko,
didja see that post about XBOX controllers? There's an S controller for the XBOX as well as the original, only difference being that it's smaller. If you're used to PS2, (and who can blame u for that!:p ), then this is the contoller for u!

yeah I heard of the smaller controller.. Id probably check it out if investing in an xbox... I found using the white and black buttons were also out of the way.. I like all buttons available, from how I hold it.
Also I would be interested in playing a fighting game for it.. When I play Tekken Tag I hold the controller differently, so my main 3 fingers have full control on the buttons which basically means holding the controller with one hand.. I dunno if that would be so easy on the xbox.
But suppose it is what we get used to. Ive been using the PSX/PS2 controller for 3 yrs now.

Yeah....I like the PS contollers a lot!
I never had a PS, only the PS2, so I had to get used to this style of controller much later than everybody else did. Still, it didn't take too long.
The GC contollers look poxy from a design point of view IMO, but they would probably be OK to use, as they're not oversized. Only GC owners can really say!!

i have used the GC a little and it feels ok, except the the top buttons on top of the controller like the R1 and R2 on PS2, the top one of these feels rather cheap and not well constructed. It probably is just the style. Maybe it is like a trigger or something? but apart from that I liked the controller

I wonder if anyone knows of a place that sells the rubber membranes that go inside all of these various controllers.
As these are the parts that generally fail first, it would make sense to be able to replace them, rather than fork out for a whole new controller. The best part is, it's easy to do!!
Years ago, I replaced the matrices for my Intellivision controllers, and it made the gameplay so much better, as the buttons actually made things happen when they were pressed!!
I don't have any probs with my PS2 controllers, but I know after years of abuse, the SNES controllers were acting quite sluggishly!!

I wore out the left analog stick on two PSone controllers, all around the edges the rubber was worn almost down to the plastic. Too many racing games I think. I find it hard to keep my finger on the analog stick.
