...Hence making your computer backward-compatable with at least most old stuff.

It did have a cartridge slot, but that was for expanded memory.
Ironically, the expanded memory cartridge looked a lot like the same shape of an MD game, however I remember being told off the bat when buying it (biggest mistake I ever made) that it won't play MD cartridges.

I have a GameCube. Not that impressed so far but all will change when Metroid Prime and Zelda come out.
If I buy another console it will definately be the XBOX. Tempted by the new GBA-SP as well.
I had a PS2 a long time ago. I don't miss it (especially with GTA3 on PC. I do miss Pro Evolution Soccer. Its coming to GCN so I've been told so yay!!)

Well I'm glad to hear you have super smash bros, you'll enjoy it you will. I'm not tempted by any other console I have my "obsolete" consoles and my GC and that's enough for me.
