Casablanca R4 Vs R1

Does anyone have the R4 Casablanca DVD? I'm sure someone out there does. Well... could you please read the following review and comment on its accuracy.....

Is the transfer reeally that bad? Or do you agree with the guy at dvd.net.au ?

US reviews seem to suggest the R1 is pretty good. I'd love some firsthand advice as to what version to get...

I assume the R2 disc is identical to ours. These reviews are quite possitive... WTF? Is Michael D smoking something or are the British blind?

Easy solution is to go hire the R4 disc I guess. Doesn't tell me if the R1 is superior though...

The film is very old so we would expect some grain.. But I have to agree with Michael. The quality is not up to scratch. Compare it to other titles made a few years before it such as Gone w/ the Wind and Wizard of Oz, it does not compare favourable.

Casablanca being in b&w should not make a difference. I havent a film in b&w of that era to compare.

I havent viewed it in bout 18 months, just sitting on shelf recently but as there are no accurate reports on the R1 the R4 may be ok..
