For those of you who enjoy GBA, here is a link to the new version Nintendo will release in the US in march 2003.

Not sure when we'll have it though. BIG feature: it's BACKLIT! (And about time, too.)

Info here (http://www.nintendo.com/news/news_articles.jsp?articleID=7901)

Dosen't matter if you get the american one GameBoy games don't have regional coding like console games do.

I'd rather wait until the Aussie version comes out. I know that there's isn't region coding or PAL VS NTSC issues, it's more of a warranty thing.

According to one site I looked at, the internal light on the GBA SP (the new version) is better than the original GBA with the Afterburner light kit fitted, and I was just about to order one from Lik Sang!!!

(The "SP" stands for special!!)

The Aussie release for the GBA-SP is 28th of March. So it's not long to wait.

Have to admit I'm tempted. But at RRP $199 its a little close to the price of the 'real' consoles. XBOX was only $289 at Dick Smith the other day. GameCube is available for a little over $200.

At least the new model has a built in rechargeable battery. That must mean the AC adapter comes included right?

Games aren't cheap either. Standard Nintendo release is now $67. Way too much for snes emulation on the go.

But it does look very cool. And if you spend a lot of time waiting between classes or something, I guess it could be a good option.

What games would I get if I went ahead and wasted money on a new GBA-SP?

Metroid Fusion, Zelda, Mario Kart, SFA3, Castlevania COTM, F-Zero......

Friggin' expensive. Maybe I'd need to get one of those 256MB flash Carts instead:D Kidding of course.

If anyone cares, they're also releasong the GameCube 'Gameboy player' later this year. It will enable you to play GBA games on your GameCube. Not sure how much it will cost. Probably around the $90 mark. You don't need a GBA to play either but if you have one your mate can link up and play against you.... I can already see the arguments over who gets to use the TV screen.

Should be a good 6 months for GameCube owners. Metroid Prime and Super Monkey Ball 2 in March. Resident Evil Zero around that time also. Then Zelda in May (best game of 2003 right there!! You also get Zelda OoT included as a freebie!! How good is that!).

But wheres Mario Kart and Mario Golf???? Really need to play those on my Cube. Hope the rumours about Link being in the GCN version of Soul Calibur 2 are true also. I have a felling its not though. I also have a feeling that SC2 will be alot better on the XBOX. Why? Well look at DOA3. Beautiful. Can the GameCube manage that? I not so sure....

Damn! Don't you hate it when a lack of funds stands in your way!:(
It was all sounding good until I thought about the cost of this stuff. LOL:rolleyes:

I know you have an XBOX, but do you have a GameCube as well?

If not definately get one... stuff getting the GBA-SP.

There's some cool stuff coming to XBOX as well. It gets the superior version of NBA2k3 - a game I've wanted for a while. Crimson Skies and Midtown Madnes 3 could be two sleeper hits for Microsoft. Halo 2 (don't need to add anything).

No, no GameCube but they have some pretty awesome titles coming out and I'd have one for sure if the funds were available.
I could also go a new Game Boy SP if the funds were there.:D

I had the advance and sold it. $80+ for a game was a bit steep when I could get a PS2 for a few more pesos.
But w/ the Final Fantasy title appearing on it, I have re-thought the value in owning one. Probably better of with a GC instead to get a Nintendo fix

Definately. If it's one or the other GameCube all the way. Getting the GBASP over the Cube is nearly as bad as buying PSone instead of PS2. The only saving grace for the GBASP is 1) its way cool and 2) its portable.

But. I'll be honest. It's highly likely I'll have one by April. Even though I KNOW my gaming dollar would be better spent elsewhere (Like on an XBOX). Something about simple 2D games , little carts and little consumer electronics. Just so little... little .... :D

Maybe its marketing. Despite the fact I can download all these games for free and play them full screen on a pC ... nothing beats the gameboy experience for gameboy games. Hand cramps and all. At least now there willl be no squinting.

So if I get one I'll hunt around for cheap games. I'll limit the number I get also. Just the classics ...Zelda SM4 (Super MArio 3 SNES), Metroid, Mario Kart, Castlevania......

WAIT Hell thats already $340 worth!!! Blow that what was I thinking!!!

:D If your try to rationalize your videogame spending you're not a true gamer. Like i true DVD collector who never thinks twice about importing an expensive R1 DVD (for the better french subtitles (better font) and polish language track- in DTS of course).... the gamer must maintain his purchasing stupidity. Its the only way to stay pure....

Anyway... I waste money on dumber things than cool consumer electronics (like food)

I had the Mario Kart game on GBA before selling it. It definitely was the best version of single player cart on any of the Nintendo systems. Dunno about multi player as no one I knew had a system

I know I'll be selling my GBA when the GBASP is available, thanx Craptest for posting the Aussie release date, I couldn't find it!!!

The GBA is absolutely PERFECT for doctors waiting rooms! And trains!

I read that the internal light beats the afterburner kit for the existing GBA....gotta love that!!!

BTW: after waiting YEARS for the new Metroid game, I was very disappointed with Metroid Fusion: Maybe it's just old age, but I found some parts of the game impossible to get past without cheating. I usually only cheat after I've played the game thru' once. Just my 2 cents worth.
