Hi,

I bought an ex rental DVD from Video Ezy and the staff member who served me told me never to remove the sticker on the dvd (around the hole) as it would damage my DVD?? When i asked what/how it would damage it she just said she was told to tell everyone that so she does. Anyone know if this is true??

Coincidence or not my previous DVD player Sony NS300 got an ice age DVD stuck in it that was an ex rental that I took the sticker off (because noone ever told me before).

Can anyone tell me for sure why removing the sticker would damage things? Thanks!

Rob

Hi,

I seriously doubt this is true. The one that failed could be due to mistreatment by other renters.

It's just a sticker how can that harm a disc?

After I check the ex-rental I always remove the sticker (sometimes I can't get it off without it looking like crap so I leave it on) and I havn't encountered a problem yet.

Thanks

Hi I worked at Movies4U so I'll tell you whats up. You can remove the sticker (as Ive bought a few when I was working at the shop) but if you dont clean and get the sticky substance off the disc, the disc can get stuck in your machine and its really hard to get out (I learnt the hard way). So yes take off the sticker if you want just make sure its substance free before you stick it in to play.;)

Removing the sticker can also warp the discs.

Maybe it sounds crazy, but it is true. You can remove the glue with white spirit. The glue goes away. It doesn't damage the DVD. If you don't believe, try with an old CD or DVD

Speaking from experience. If you don't have stuff to clean the glue, don't peel off the sticker, or it will glue itself to the disc "grabber". When the tray opens, where is the disc? so you pop another DVD in, arrh...

What do you use to take the glue off of the DVD?

In Belgium, they sell WHITE SPIRIT in a paint shop. It's a product to clean a paint brush. It removes very well the glue, and the DVD looks new.

Just go to Bunnings and buy some "De-Solve-It" its a citrus based remover that gets all the goo off. I use it all the time, its great for when you take off those annoying stickers on your dvd cases it cleans them right up, and I always take off the sticker from an ex-rental use this on it and the dvd comes up like its new, you just have to make sure you get all the sticky stuff off before you use it as like NSU said it can stick in your dvd player if you don't.
