titanic? TITANIC? im sorry but i thought that was probably one of the worst movies ever made yeah the special effects were good but leonardo decrapio ruined it with his bad acting and the story line seemed very unbelievable. not the boat sinking (we all know that happened) but the story around leo and kate, or am i being overly harsh?

You've gotta love the disaster movies from the 70's as they are in a class of their own.
Dodgy special effects were their specialty (anyone remember the very fake looking blobs of animated blood in the elevator scene in Earthquake? :rolling: ) and is it just me or did George Kennedy seem to be in most of them. The poor guy had a rough time in the 70's, didn't he! :p

As for the more recent disaster movies, I'd rate 28 Days Later above most of them.

Bah, the appalling script did more to ruin it than either of those. :)

Titanic is a fantastic disaster film completely ruined by a poorly planned, scripted and acted hour of romance in the middle. If it skipped from the opening section (Cameron's idea to show us how the ship sinks at the start was genius) to the ship hitting the Titanic it'd be a great film. :D

A Night to Remember should be in Titanic's place

I would have thought Armaggedon would have made the top....

and yukkk @ 28 Days Later, was thouroughly disappointed with that movie :/ it was just a sequence of events no real resolution or climax you know what I mean? :_)

Oh, it was an iceberg? I kind of thought that was a funny shape for a ship. I guess you live and learn!

Has anybody heard reviews about The Day After Tomorrow? The special effects look mad, but I wonder if it's any good beyond that. But then the recent trend seems to be, if you have great effects, you don't need a decent storyline or characters. Still, i hope it's a good one -- the trailers have sucked me in!

I'm seeing a preview screening tonight, and I've got my apprehensions. I've never been a fan of disaster movies, or CGI films for that matter. I'll report back later tonight. :)

Oh yes, please do, linton! :)
I'd like to know whether it's worth paying to see. I know what you mean about CGI films.. they're often doozies. Good old fashioned intellectual stimulation is the way, i reckon. Have fun, hope you enjoy the film. :)
