hey guys,
dont know if this has already been suggested but maybe you could put in a feature that will automatically close a thread if there have been no new posts on it in a certain period of time, say 1 or 2 months? this would stop people dragging up old threads or polls coz they want to be a smart arse (as i have read some people say)
just a thought

I agree, however I don't see why closed polls and threads aren't deleted, theres over 50 pages of threads, it is unlikely someone will dredge through them all before making a new thread, perhaps closed threads or those that no longer apply could even be deleted?

There is some threads that this would be no good for though, such as the sporting threads (Cricket, AFL, NRL, V8's, Formula 1 threads) that only get posts in their season.
There was a mass pruning of old threads about a year ago (I think it had to do with lack of space?) but there has since been upgrades etc, so its not required.
Everyones post count dropped all of a sudden, Older members seemed a lot newer :p

snip
maybe there could be a section where sporting threads can be kept and then disable the automatic shut off feature in that section only?

Sounds like a lot of effort.
The best option would be to stop idiots using computers. That would eliminate the need for the protecting of bumping irrelevant stuff.
Totally agree with you there Tsar, sounds to complicated to be bothered with :p
Maybe auto delete after say 2/3 years?

Surely if no responses are added after 30 days, they are useless!!!

Any decisions to close threads will be done by the mods. Points noted.. ;)

The annoying thing is that when you delete a thread everyone loses any posts in it. When they deleted the word association and the linked word thing I lost half my posts :D.

And you wonder why we did it?
Some posts of value are left there because someone might do a search and find something useful. Also Google also indexes these forums.

So if threads were deleted we would get even more "page cannot be displayed" from Google. :)
I've often wondered how Google prunes out the non-existent links (or if they do), because sometimes there seems to be a lot of them.

Depended if they had refreshed their cache yet.

Can I suggest that the Franz Ferdinand garage session thread have all its posts moved into the general Garage Session thread. I don't think we need two garage session threads in the Triple M (MMM) Freq Club Forum. Thank you. :)
Edit 12:10pm Saturday: Hey it works! If you post a request enough times in the right places someone does take notice. Thank you Forum Moderators thank you thank you thank you. I'm happy again now. :)

So what there is no prize for having the most post count! :rolling:
it makes them feel *special* like they contribute valuable things, when mostly all we seem to talk about it the exact opposite :p

BUT I want to be a Valued Forum Member! WAAAAAH! :)
hey tonti - I'll swap with you - to only be 500-600 again *sigh*- I'm all for the pruning - I can't say I've had a good look around the mmm section, but the last time I did there were a *few* obsolete threads cluttering up my view - very annoying when you know there's a thread somewhere on topic X and the search doesn't bring it up in the title and you have to trawl through the whole forum (well the mmm forum is pretty small relatively)
- but i must say that overall I reckon that the mods are doing a pretty nice job of tidying things up and the time this takes is appreciated by all of us :)
