Well, Roland Emmerich has outdone his last 'disaster flick' (Indepedance Day) with his global warming aftermath movie, The Day After Tomorrow.
Overall it was a bit of a no brainer, although a brush up of the locations of main cities in the US is strongly recommended before watching (Just helps you follow the disasters). :)

I was expecting the CGI effects to dominate and get the movie through, and while a majority of the lasting scenes are CGI. there is also a good storyline of the human hope (be it a Lot americanised version of it), something I'd hoped, but didn't expect to be so good. :)
A few of the effects I swore I had seen before from films like Twister, vertical Limit, and a LOT from Deep Impact, but they've been bettered in this outing.
If you plan on seeing this film, it's got to be at the cinemas at least one of those times, unless of course you've got a projector.
It was a surprise that I liked this so much. Hopefully it might have a lingering effect in peoples mind. It will definitely be one of the big movies of 2004 no matter what happens.

To make it worse, it was raining when the cinema let out :p

The overall score takes into consideration for my dislike for disaster flicks though, so don't take it as an accurate rating.
6/10

Some of the lasting scenes:
The wide shot of a helicopter flying between multiple tornado's ripping through L.A then one of them destroying the HOLLYWOOD sign

American refugees fleeing to Mexico, and Mexico closing the gates in their face :p

Australia in every weather map coming off almost unscathed :D

I saw this film last night, it blew me away :p (sorry about the pun!)

It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, as linton said see it at the cinemas if you want to get the best experience from this movie, see it on the largest widest screen possible.

We saw it on cinemax and it was fantastic, there are times in this film when it's like a news report and it feels real.

I love disaster movies so I highly recommend it - action from the first 10 minutes to the last 10 minutes.

8/10

Edit: Had time to think about it over the weekend it is an 8/10 :o

Yeah, I thought it was a good popcorn flick with some pretty sweet cgi.
Definitely one that you should see in a good cinema.
I'd go 7/10 overall.

I loved the special effects in this movie, but i found it very americanised. Like the scene where it showed the american flag freezing.
As i walked out of the movies, i asked myself,
How can just the northern hemisphere's water level rise 25ft?
How come in scotland the petrol froze in the lines but when he was in that kitchen place he could light the gas stove?
What was the whole point of going to find his son? so he could die with him? the father could not do anything about the storm, so what use is it being there? Would make more sense to wait the 7 days for the storm to clear. The ending wasn't the best, he spoke to his ex wife on the phone, didn't even reunite with her and his son.
Even though the movie had its flaws, i loved it, and was highly entertaining.
I give it a 7.5/10

P.S. Sorry for being a negative nancy and nit picking :dD

My guess for you answer DaMo[3]

IS that in the chopper the fuel lines were exposed to the outside air, where the stove's gas was inside the building's walls which could not be frozen

Good movie 7.5 / 10

Cheers

Aaah, very nice movie. Although one of the things that peeved me off...
They left many storylines unfinished, such as the rich guy's brother. Just seems weird, why even write it into the story if you arent going to finish it?
Overall a great movie, was expecting the whole "save the lost family member" kind of story to ruin it, but they did quite a good job. CGI scenes were fantastic. Nice to add to the DVD collection soon.
