Well, Roland Emmerich has outdone his last 'disaster flick' (Indepedance Day) with his global warming aftermath movie, The Day After Tomorrow.
Overall it was a bit of a no brainer, although a brush up of the locations of main cities in the US is strongly recommended before watching (Just helps you follow the disasters). :)
I was expecting the CGI effects to dominate and get the movie through, and while a majority of the lasting scenes are CGI. there is also a good storyline of the human hope (be it a Lot americanised version of it), something I'd hoped, but didn't expect to be so good. :)
A few of the effects I swore I had seen before from films like Twister, vertical Limit, and a LOT from Deep Impact, but they've been bettered in this outing.
If you plan on seeing this film, it's got to be at the cinemas at least one of those times, unless of course you've got a projector.
It was a surprise that I liked this so much. Hopefully it might have a lingering effect in peoples mind. It will definitely be one of the big movies of 2004 no matter what happens.
To make it worse, it was raining when the cinema let out :p
The overall score takes into consideration for my dislike for disaster flicks though, so don't take it as an accurate rating.
6/10
Some of the lasting scenes:
The wide shot of a helicopter flying between multiple tornado's ripping through L.A then one of them destroying the HOLLYWOOD sign
American refugees fleeing to Mexico, and Mexico closing the gates in their face :p
Australia in every weather map coming off almost unscathed :D
