Hi Everybody,
It's getting close to the time for me to consider retirement for my old Sony
VPL-W400 LCD projector. Don't get me wrong, it's been a fantastic unit and
is still giving me great results. I am still on the original lamp and I have
a brand new (tested!) spare.
I have looking at various options, I have come down to a couple of options.
1 : Infocus Screenplay 7200 DLP
2 : Yamaha DPX-1000
Both are around the same money and I'm open to comment from users of
either...
Regards,
Michael.

Trust me, have a really good look at them and see if you can even borrow one
overnight. I've run several DLP's and unfortunatley, I'm in the percentile
of people that see the rainbow effect. Even if I concentrate and don't
notice it (mainly on the DPX-1000), I still end up with a headache at the
end of the movie.

It's not enough just to watch several minutes of a DLP. You really need to
spend some time with one. If nothing else, watch the credits of a movie and
move your head (or eyes) rapidly from side to side while still looking at
the screen.

If you are okay after this, then you should be fine. The DPX-1000 is a very
good unit and you will be happy. Remember that the scaler in the projector
is a major factor in how good the projector is and Yamaha's have always been
good in this regards.

Don't be put off by the rainbow effect unless it gives you a headache or
something. I can certainly see it but it doesn't trouble me at all. I
would be very surprised if you can't see it whilst running the credits.

So that's what it is. Thanks for the tip.

I have an X1 and last night I drank 2/3 of a bottle of bourbon, had a couple
of doobie snacks and then had a coughing fit which caused my head to shake
uncontrollably from side to side whilst the credits were rolling on Return
of the King. I had a terrible headache afterwards. Bloody X1!!!

Hi Michael,

I also have a VPL 400 and I've been extremely happy with it's performance
over the past 2.5 years. My projector has nearly 1300 hours on it and the
globe is still going (touck wood) but I know it will go soon. I was
wondering if you were considering selling your spare lamp separately for a
reasonable price, unless of course you were going to use it to entice any
prospective buyers of the VPL 400 when you sell it?

Regards,

Peter.
