im interested in it to add on to my yamaha rx1000 as i have 2 pairs of b&w 604's for my mains and rears and the yamaha sometimes turns off for safety reasons when its loud.

do you believe the extra power of this amp will help this problem , as they are 250w speakers and i dont think the yamaha has enough power/headroom to run them

would you consider a in home demo ???

Crumpet,

An audition would be a good idea, I have a Yamaha RX-V3000 and use to own a
secondhand Elektra 6 Channel amp, the quality of the Elektra left the
RX-V3000 for dead and I would say there would be even a larger difference
with the RX-V1000. The only issue I had with the Elektra was that I use to
get a popping sound when changing inputs on the Yamaha receiver or digital
STB and DVD. Also another minor issue if the Elektra is an earlier model is
that it will not have the auto on/off feature or 12 volt trigger which means
you will have to turn it on and off manually. The later models has this
feature and therefore not an issue.

I eventually upgraded to a Rotel 200W 2 ch power amp as my main focus was to
improve 2ch stereo through my mains. also the RX-V1000 and RX-V3000 have a
set of Pre-In/Pre-Outs so the two amps in the Yamaha that use to drive your
fronts can be dedicated to the rear channel or in my case to drive another
set of zone 2 speakers in another room for background music. With the Rotel
power amp I did not have the popping sound issue when changing inputs.

The sound and build quality of the Elektra Power amp is very high.

Regards,

John.

Crumpet,
I am running a Yamaha RXV1200 and the Elektra and it is fantastic. My
Dynaudio main speakers are rated at about 250-300W RMS and the RX just did
not drive them, they clipped during intensive movie scenes (nasty).
Dynaudios are also fairly inefficient so you need a lot to drive them. Now
the Elektra actually overdrives them at time so I have to keep the volume at
max -39db. Need a sub now.
When I demoed the Elektra I was amazed by how crisp the sound was. I looked
at the Rotel as well and found it a bit "soft" amd maybe a bit fuller.
Maybe I have japanese ears and prefer the brighter sound, I don't know.

I have noticed the "pop" when you change inputs as well although it is very
slight and it dowsn't worry me. If you want to hear a real clap, then team
up the Elektra with any Marantz amp! Very nasty.

IMHO, get the Elektra. You will not be disappointed.

Regards,
Chris
