Is it possible to connect PC speakers to a DVD player(or TV)? The sound on my bedroom TV is dying, and I have some old 4.1 PC speakers that I don't use, so I was wondering if they would be compatible?

The PC speakers have 2x3.5mm stereo plugs, and the TV has 2 RCA audio outs, and the DVD player has 6x analog RCA out(5.1ch)...so will I be able to buy a stereo to RCA adapter to connect them up, or is that not possible?

Cheers

Yes, you can buy adaptors, so it shouldn't be any problem....

For people who have a DVD player with 5.1 decoder built in, it is also a cheap way to get surround sound.

e.g. Centre channel to TV, FR & FL to powered stereo PC speakers, and SR & SL to another set of powered stereo PC speakers.

If your TV has a Monitor out RCA, you can do it.Your dvd will have audio out,and you can do it.
But why bother??? at best you might get stereo.
May I suggest you get onto EBAY and buy a cheap old amp for about $100 and a small pair of accusound speakers, and it will sound great.
OR really lash out and buy a 5.1 reciever, and add more speakers later.

His DVD player has a 5.1 decoder with 6 output already. (C, FR, FL, SR, SL, SW), so he obviously doesn't want to spend a lot on what is a bedroom DVD set up.

Because it's only for a small bedroom, and it's a cheap(free) alternative to replacing the TV completly--plus I'm already trying to scrape some $$$ together to set up the HT room properly.

O.K. I assume your computer speakers has a single input plug,so buy a 2 to 1
RCA adapter, they are readily available from D--k S---H electric and plug this into the RCA audio out sockets of your dvd player, then plug the single RCA socket into your computer speakers via the adapter or adapter lead, thus picture through the TV and stereo sound from your computer speakers.

As you have TWO stereo inputs(4.1 as you say), you can get 2x stereo RCA to stereo 3.5mm converters. So you will end up with 4 channels. I assume your 0.1 is a subwoofer.
You only problem will the the Centre channel. A lot of the dialogue, and in fact ALL of a "voice over" (e.g. Tom Hanks voice over in Forrest Gump) is in the Centre channel. You will need some form of amplification for Centre.

Cheers for the info, I'll grab an adapter and see if I can get it worked out.
