All,

I have recently purchased a Philips DVD625K DVD player which seems to be
working fine, plays all -R/RW and +R/RW's I have thrown at it!

It is the "Australian" version of the player, so it has Component and
S-Video outputs rather than a SCART socket.

However, it as one irritating omission. It doesn't seem to support WSS
(Wide Screen Signaling on line 23). I have the player hooked up to a Thomson
28" 16:9 TV via S-Video and have had no problems with my last DVD player
setup this way (which I have rechecked works). The TV is definitely set for
Auto aspect switching in its menus.

It is a royal pain in the arse to have to manually change the TV setting
each time say you watch a 4:3 "making of" or similar on a movie DVD.

There is nothing in the manual about it, does anyone else know if their is a
hidden menu or firmware update that might resolve this?

Danny.
