Am about to purchase Widescreen 86cm TV.
Not really interested in Plasma or LCD.
Looking at Philips 36PW9527, Panasonic TX-86PW200a or TX-86DT30A, Toshiba 36SW9UA or posibly as last resort Palsonic 86WSHDA.
I can get the Philips for a little under $3500 same with Panasonics.
At the moment I like Philips probably because I have had a 68cm Philips Matchline for about 12 years with no problems whatsoever.
I intend to buy HD set top later when price comes down.
Trouble is the more you look and investigate the more confused I become.
Looking for some help here.

I too am in the market for a new TV, I like the new DLP system which is Hi-definition.300 hz,and smallish for a rear projection set (30 cm deep).
They have had teething problems, but seem to be sorted out now.
Very soon Panasonic and Samsung will be releasing models to join LG. on the marketplace.
The LG can be purchaced by for as little as $3,700 by "bartering" shoppers.even less from some factory outlets.
Personally,I will wait until all brands to become available, and see how competition effects the price
You can check them out at Harvey's,Domayne and the Good Guys.
Ps.H-----N----- is overpriced,shop around

The Panasonic looks like crap. If you have the cash, get the Sony fine
pitch, if you don't, get the Palsonic(I own the 76cm and amazed by the
picture quality) and a good matrixing video switching box.

The more I look the worse it gets.
Went into Havey Norman and they had the Philips 36Pw9527 advertised as a 92 cm set, then the salesman told me it could not be set up for High Definition. So I rang Philips who said it was 86cm and was HD ready.
So I still have to choose between the Philips, Panasonic TX-86Dt 30A. The Toshiba 36SW9UA is nice but only 50hz. Sony is nice but is about $1500 dearer than others.
The Philips was over $6000 now can get for below$3400.

I got the panasonic TX-86DT30A - returning it to JBhifi tomorrow. Picture quality suxx... to be honest. The only thing great about it is that it comes with a sd tuner integrated but that was the problem. The tuner tends to lock up, my set developed color patches up, down, left and right even though i degaussed a zillion times, remove all my speakers and so forth and the geomagnetic function is the worst. I adjust it, had someone to tune it up from Panasonic, no luck. So JB says return it, and i am thinking of sony tv either 76cm or the 86cm ones... but yea the sony's top of the line widescreen at 86cm SERIOUSLY LOOKS marvellous. But it's at 4699 at JB fuxx....... but JB can do a little better to make it 4100, or even 4200 i am there! :D
