Hi all im a bit of a newbie here and i am have problems with my Foxtel digital displaying on my projector. My STU is a pace and my projector is a hitachi cp-s210. i get a good picture on tv. but if i plug foxtel into projector i get like macrovision lines in my projector screen and a awful hum from amp. Even if i just want to watch a dvd on the projector i have to disconnect the fox cable from the stu or it does the same thing. i have also tried to connect just stu to projector using both svhs and rca with everything else unpluged and still no good. i was reading up on a video converter http://www.smarthome.com/77706.html and was wondering if i am on the right track if i got one of these or do i need something else.
PS i had same problem with analog foxtel aswell.

Sounds like a strange problem, I have no trouble with the Austar digital signal on my Proxima projector, and that is running through an old VCR.

You said it also disrupts your dvd, so are all your video outputs running through your amp? Can you try running video directly from the STB to the projector?

How are you Regie .

I know for a fact that Foxtel Digital outputs macrovision on all box office movie channels . How do i know this , after i had it installed , the installer did his thing and after he left , i hooked it up my way ( i dont mean to sound bad as the tech was pleasant , helpull and knowledgable unlike me with my spelling but i just wanted to save him the mucking around ) and upon hooking up the AVs to Video in on the VCR , all box office movies would not run through the video . I rang Foxtel and was told that the movies were coded so they could not be recorded .

knowing exactly what she meant , i went out and bought a video enhancer called funnily enough " Copy Kat " which is actually a macrovision remover and problem solved .

I assume this is the problem with yours reggie .

Good Luck .

P.S.. I dont encourage recording movies or any material off foxtel or any other sources , the use of the copy kat is stricktly for picture enhancment and would never be used for illegal activity .

Thanks for the replies guys but no i get the macro vision on every channel and i have even plugged the stu straight to projector(via rca) with no other cable connected i do not get the hum from the amp (as its unplugged) but still get lines on my screen. if i use my old standed antana i get a good pic if i have the foxtel cable unplugged from STU as soon as the foxtel cable from the wall touches the back of the foxtel box i get the hum and lines on the screen. One of my friends said that it sounded like a 50htz hum. im not real sure what that is myself. Also when i do take fox cable out of the back of the STU i can fell a slight current if i hold the fox cable with one hand and the stu with the other. This happened on the old analog box also. I told the so called tech from foxtel about this and he said that they do use a power amplifier for there signal and for me not to unplugg it as it my cause damage to their unit. Does anyone know if there should be a current strong enough for me to feel. you can see a tiny spark as you plug it into the stu . Everything works fine if i use it on my 68cm tv nice pefect picture and no hum. VERY STRANGE i want it going before next state of origin.

Make sure that the fox-box is plugged into the same power circuit as your
amp and projector.......

you have an earth loop

CHEERS!

Thanks for the tip i have my projector mounted in the roof and i am (was)using a old light fitting as my power source for projector. So i pulled out every plug for amp tv fox video dvd and then every rca s-video cables and then hooked up fox and projector i still had crapy picture but it was a bit better then before so i tried a few different power leads and hay presto it was perfect. then i had the task of plugging every thing back together. Once everything was back i tried again still using new power cord pluged into extension cord and the hum was gone although i think the svideo lead in the roof may need replacing as the pic still has some lines. I think i still have a bit of a earth loop problem and i am still hunting what it is. I did find some good sites on the problem
www.jaycar.com.au/images_uploaded/humloop.pdf

Thinking i might get RGB leads to plug into projector from dvd player. But can you get a scart adaptor to RGB leads????????????? thanks for the replies

You can buy a Scart to component/Svideo adapter at Dick Smith's, or a Scart to SVideo at JB Hi-Fi.

Otherwise try http://www.arista.com.au/ or for higher end solution maybe http://www.hometheatre.net.au/joytech.htm

or
