I am the proud owner of a new Infocus X1.....I am also confused. I have a Philips DVD 736k player, what is the best way to connect this dvd to the X1....Component to S-Video cable??? (at the moment I am using an S-Video cable only)
This dvd player does not have progressive scan, would I be better off with a player that has progressive scan??
I recieved a Component-VGA cable but the projector doesn't recognise the dvd player when I connect with this cable.
My apologies if these are stupid questions.
Thanks guys.

The reason why you do not see a picture on the X1 when you use the Component-VGA cable is because your DVD player is outputing 576i (Interlaced) signal. The X1 expects at least 576p (Progressive) on this input.
If you want Progressive from the source then buy a DVD player that supports Progressive scan. If you do buy one make sure it supports PAL Progressive (some convert PAL interlaced to NTSC progressive - crisp picture but less lines).

When you are connected via s-video from DVD to the X1 you are also outputing 576i.

If you buy the X1 Component to S-video adapter the X1 will de-interlace the signal using the inbuilt Farouja chip.

Personally I have a Progressive DVD player (Yamaha - S540) which I think is a better image than when I was using the X1 Component to S-video adapter.

Refer to the X1 FAQ for further info.

Thanks Steve.
Have heard mixed reports re using a progressive scan dvd or using the X1's Farouja chip.
