Finally got a Topfield TF5000PVRt STB, so I thought I'd start to add it in
to my Pronto 890 , but have now discovered that I can no longer update the
Pronto any longer, as it comes up with "Error downloading configuration into
RC device" whenever I try to update it.
It's been a while since I have updated the Pronto, and have since then
upgraded to win xp and a new computer, so I no longer have any of the older
versions of ProntoEdit.
The Pronto talks ok to the computer, as I was able to learn some new IR
commands with it.
Thanks for your help !

Download a program called Tonto. I have found it to be much more robust and
I use it with Win XP. I never could get ProntoEdit working perfectly but
Tonto is great.

Brendan,
Long time since you have lurked here!!
Have a look on the remote central forums. I think it may be a known error
with the Pronto - You may have to initialise it or something and try again.
I have used PE 4 with XP - no problems. Just try the forums.

David

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try.

Not wrong there... had more to do with my life than hang around newsgroups.

It's been suggested to try out Tonto http://giantlaser.com/tonto/ .
It sees my Pronto, just doesn't want to up/download to it. What should I try
to initialise it ?

Check the manual - there is a way to make it drop it's guts. And again, try
remotecentral.com forums. I am certain I have seen errors like this
discussed.

Just found in the readme to prontoedit, that you need to activate the pronto
for it to work... did that, and it took it in fine.
Next thing I want to try and do is to make a macro so that I can change the
output on the fly/macro to go from letterbox to centre cut, so I can record
shows in full screen that are not broadcast in widescreen.... well if that's
possible like my DGTEC one.
Just got the Topfield today, so I'm still learning how to drive it. :)

Wow, that is going to be a simple macro, hit the "0" key.... done!
But given you have a Topfield, you don't have to change the letterbox during
recording, you can do it on the fly with playback.
If you try my AutoLetterbox TAP (will make an updated version this weekend
to accomodate that the newest firmware doesn't have whiteline issues), then
you can toggle between the two relevant modes for your TV type:
16:9 TV (with auto WSS switching): 4:3centre Cut and 16:9
4:3 TV (no WSS switching): 4:3centre Cut and 4:3letterbox
Cheers
Tony
