Hi,
I'm looking at purchasing a budget (less than $250) speaker set to plug into
a toshiba dvd player in my lounge room.

What would be a good product to buy at this price?

Also do i need to have purchased an AC3 decoder somewhere between the dvd
player and the speakers?

coming from a computer backgroudn and these days with lots of PC speakers
having a dvd --> speaker link i was considering getting a computer brand of
speakers, like Altec/Lansing, Logitech,etc.

pc speakers that have good ratings from reviews;

traditional HI-fi speakers;

thanks in advance.

No speakers are a good buy at that price. Save some more and buy a decent
set of fronts, then build up slowly. It will be money down the drain
otherwise.

Yeah, kinda thought that after more investigation.

I decided to spend $500 on the Logitech Z680 5.1 set with built in dolby
digital decoder and have hooked them up tonight. just watched the Matrix
revolutions and got to say this set of speakers is absolutely loung chair
blasting!
Highly recommend them for ppl who want a simple solution for a modest price.
