View Full Version : Digital Signal problems

I'm having pixilation, freezing and over last weekend lost all digital
channels complety (still had radio and free to air and the +2 channels eg
Lifestyle+2 for some reason)
Does anyone have similar problems and know what to do? If I do a signal test
in the setup its only showing a red and sometimes a yellow bar i.e. low
signal.
Before I contact Foxtel (which is a pain as they don't really know what to
do, it seems digital is a mystery for most of the people they send round
too. One tech suggested we need a signal booster but it seemed to fix itself
until now)
I thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas first before ringing the dreaded
131999.... We have two independent boxes (i.e. we pay for an extra outlet
with a box) and one is usually better than the other. Thanks

I don't know if this is related but during that really bad weather in Melbourne last Sunday night, I've lost all signal in one of
our STUs. At first, there was pixelation, freezing and loss of sound. Soon after that, all the lights on the STU started blinking
and there was nothing - no transmission at all. I tried sorting it out myself. Unfortunately, nothing I did worked so I called for
support. The tech is coming out tomorrow. I wonder what's wrong with it. The 2nd STU in the another room is working perfectly.

This sounds very similar to our issue. We have two boxes also and one is
usually better than the other. The tech who looked at this weeks ago said
the box near the cable inlet probably had the stronger signal. At that time
he reckoned we needed a signal booster but as it sorted itself out it was
never fixed.
Now its causing problems again i.e. everything you describe in fact we lost
pictures from both completely at the weekend. I just wanted to see if there
was any knowledge on this first before contacting Foxtel as in my experience
the techs aren't very well trained on Digital (not there fault, they just
don't have the knowledge yet) and don't know what to do.
Perhaps there is an issue with multiple outlets?
I case you don't know, to check your signal strength (which the tech showed
us) go to Set Up, System Settings then Signal Test. The Signal strength
apparently should have red yellow and green bars on the signal strength. We
have been down to one red bar. The Signal Quality has always been OK.
Anyway let me know if you have any joy with this tech as your issue sounds
like its the same.
Cheers

Thanks for that.

The tech did come out on Friday and he ended up replacing the STU. Since then everything has been working perfectly (knock on
wood). I did get a different model from the first unit though but that's not an issue.
