Well, whilst this post has attracted nil response, I thought I'd
update for prosperity. I went to the local 7-day-hire-for-free
electroncis boutique and borrowed some cables at 100% deposit. Wired
it up last night, and it works a charm.

Digital STB -> TV on SCART 1, and then TV -> AMP on SCART=2.

Sound comes through loud and clear.

Tonight I'll try to record by plugging all six RCAs from SCART-2 into
the VCR.

So what happened? I have a similar scenario but using a philips dvd recorder instead. I have plugged in the recoreder to the tv using the scart cable with 6 rca plugs (video/audio input and output). I would have thought that whatever was being displayed on the screen is what would be output to the recorder???

Perhaps?
