After mulling around the projector forums for some time I took the plunge and purchased the new InFocus DLP 4805 Pj and a 96" (dia) Screen. Last night it was time to hook it up and turn it on, what came to mind (within 1 minute) was I'm gobsmacked, amazed and bloody thrilled at the fantastic picture quality, its simply so good and all for $3700 including Pj, screen, cables and adjustable ceiling mount.

I can see no vertical banding or any picture loss of any kind and the noise level from the Pj was not noticed, and even though the adjustable screen settings (from the remote) are comprehensive the unit was left at factory settings straight out of the box, to me just picture perfect.

My wife was very apprehensive about buying a Projector over a Plazma TV but now she is totally convinced and would have stayed up all night watching movies. And lets face it, this is a screen picture of over 2m, go price a 1.5 m plasma TV and you'll have lots of change.

Happy you betcha!

Good for you gumshoe. I've been looking at this PJ - demoed it a couple of
times and loved the image. Trouble is, I suffer from the dreaded "rainbow"
and came away both times with a headache.

Looks like it may be the Hitachi TX100 for me.

Hope you have many happy hours of movie viewing.

Maybe try sitting back more or have a small soft light on, if not think the TX100 is good.

Actually those were the conditions in the second demo place I went to. I
made a conscious effort NOT to see the rainbows and only accidentally saw
one. Still ended up with a headache though. Seems some people are really
susceptible to them. Just my luck.

Now I have to decide whether to take the risk, as some people say your eyes
get used to them after a while.

By the way, where did you buy your PJ? I imagine you'll be gobsmacked for a
while - I'm very envious.

Bye
Lynn

This is just not true. If anything, it gets worse.

In fact, as the projectors get better (faster wheels with more segments) it
moves from being something you see, to just getting the headaches without
knowing why.

Go with LCD for size/convenience and CRT for PQ.

Thanks John - that explains why I got the headache without actually seeing
the colours.
Don't think I'm prepared to take the risk - probably the TX100 for me.

Might wait a while though (no stock of the TX100 in Australia for some time
anyway) as the new Panasonic AE700 is on the horizon..

Cheers
Lynn

Hi Lynn!

No probs. I am also one of the people that is badly affected.... I played
with several DLP's at home and was really impressed by some of them picture
wise - esp. the $20,000 ones... :-) However, even with the really good ones
where I couldn't see the rainbow (except during credits), I would still end
up with a bad headache after the movie. It's a bit like a hangover headache
for me.

So I moved on to a good LCD (I also had LCD's 10+ years ago with my LD
player) which cost $14K at the time. No more headaches, but after the
DLP's, I kept looking at the lack of blacks, the more '2D' like picture etc.
and decided enough was enough.

I now have a Sony G70. :-)

Regards

I can say my new new IF4805 is showing black as I want it and the picture is so clear. I think it was a bargain.
