I've got an NEC 42" plasma purchased purely on how it looked compared to other monitors in the same price range. What I didn't take into account was the lack of connections for home use, it would be great for business with many a pc rgb output but lacks typical home connection. It has no scart so I've had to connect foxtel digital via s-video. There is only one component connection which I've used for DVD. There's composite which I have the VCR hooked up to. And there's about 3 RGB connections, one VGA, one DVI and one called 'BNC RGB', which the manual says can be used for another DVD or STB. I've got a component only STB and there's no other suitable output other than this BNC RGB setup which has 3 outputs (R Cr/Pr, G Y, B Cb/Pb) that look like standard RF outputs. Is there a special adaptor or cable I can use that will allow standard component to be used with this BNC RGB setup?

I would have thought the best connection would be one set of component leads
from your AV receiver, and all sources plugged in the AV receiver.

I tried to do this with my Hitachi 37inch plasma, DVD player, and 2000A STB.
Pity the TV can't synch the video signal from the STB via component cables. So I
have to use the VGA connection for the STB and manually change channels on the
TV when I want to switch from DVD to FTA.

What you need to get is 3 BNC Plug - RCA sockets like the ones found
here:

http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/41172ba305bf8afc273fc0a87f9c071c/Product/View/P2250

Plug each one into the BNC RGB connections on your tv, then run a
component cable from it to the STB. Don't forget to switch your TV's
settings to component for that particular input.

RGB is not the same as component. You can't just plug it in (even with the
BNC - RCA adaptors).

There is a convertor that you can buy, but it would be cheaper and easier to
get a STB or DVD player that outputs RGB.

In the case of the NEC plasmas however the BNC connectors are
RGB/Component so the BNC adapters are fine. It's how I have mine set
up.
