I have the Panasonic E85H recorder, and I am looking at one of these (below), although I haven't ordered and can't comment on if it actually works! You'll notice that there is an adaptor for S-video that you can also get.

I have used a very old Jaycar video enhancer (composite only) that worked fine. Also not all movies shown on FBO enable macrovision. Unfortunately it is trial and error to determine which movies.

i HAVE A PIONEER 510 & tried to record a fbo movie & it started recording so I though good no macrovision, however after 5 mins I get a message copyrighted material & recorder automatically paused the recording. At the same time I had s-video going to the pc tuner card & the recording was successful. So when I do such a recording from now on I am just going to use my pc & dvd burner.

There is no Macrovision enabled on FBO Main Event, just through the
movie channels.

I've got the one you provided the link for. It works fine - I've copied a
couple of FBO movies as well as a number of protected videos and everything
has worked fine.

That would be becuase of the duplicated FBO MainEvent channel. There
were 2 running, On was not encrypted and the duplicate was.
Had you taped it on the main FBO Main Event channel, you would not
have had this occur.

That's funny; looks exactly the same as the Jaycar one, only $60 dearer!

I tried the Jaycar stabiliser last night and it worked a treat. One thing I noticed was that it was quite hot after 1.5 hours - anyone else noticed this???

Interestingly, I had some original commercial video tapes of the Star Wars movies 1, 2 and 3 (Episodes 4, 5 and 6). I tried to copy them from VHS to DVD and they would not copy. When I used the macrovision unit they worked a treat.
Never realised that VHS tapes had macrovision.
I now have widescreen versions on the movies on DVD.

I believe 'A Fish Called Wanda' was the first commercial VHS to have macrovision. Its use appeared to be studio dependent, for example everything from Disney seems to have it.

LOL
Copying VHS movies to DVD kind of defeats the purpose of the higher quality
DVD format..

LOL...was not done for higher/lower quality but for durability and ease of use.
Bought a Sony DVD recorder early this year.
I had hundreds of VHS tapes going back to the early 1980s and including both copied VHS movies, purchased VHS movies and VHS tapes with transcriptions of old 8 mm home movies from the 1950s.
The older film and VHS tapes have a limited life span. The family movies were the only copies held.
When we bought the DVD recorder we did a stocktake and copied a lot of the family movies etc to DVD. Also copied a few VHS movies such as Star Wars and shows no longer on TV. For instance, I now have most of the Dad's Army series on DVD - at no cost to me.
The DVDs will last MUCH longer.
It was then that I stumbled on the fact that the old Star Wars tapes had Macrovision.

I notice you posted from usenet.
I assume you just missed the point of the first post and last response explains why I did it.

Same here after a few hours, yesterday i forgot to unplug it for 12 hours or
so and was boiling hot. lol
Do you know what the button on the thing does? when I press it it turns
blank.
I tried taping a macrovision tape with flaws, it worked for awhile then it
started to wobble, but till had a clear macro free image. Anyone know how to
get around that?
