Hi,
I bought recently B&W speakers for my HT. The manual recommends to use
cables with impedance of 0.1ohm. Where I can find some info on cable
strand(number+thickness)/length/impedance relationship so I can
calculate and use proper cable length and thickness?
Thanks,
Michal

See d**k Smiths Website

http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.filereader?4116e9c40f20da7e2740c0a87f9c074d+EN/catalogs/DTS0000048

And check out ebay for lots of bargains for good quality speaker cables. I would opt for lower impedence than 0.1

hmmm...
still does not describe how to find impedance...very useful thou, got
it bookmarked, thanks,
Michal

The "Maximum Resistance per metre" column gives you that.

i.e. resistance = impedance

Hi!

Resistance and impedance are two different things, even though they are both
measured in Ohms. Strange that B&W give an impedance spec for speaker
cable... It would highly depend on the frequency, same as wire attenuation.

I would just go with a good figure eight cable. Even power flex works well
for speakers.

Maybe they actually do mean resistance... ;-)

....that is what confused me, but I've checked again the manual:
Recommended Cable Impedance 0.1 ohm.

Impedance will have to do with resistance, capacitance and relactance
I think. In cable, relactance might be ignored I suspect...

See the B&W web site FAQ on recommended speaker cable types

Hi Michael, go to www.audioaustralia.com.au.
They w/sale cable Australiawide for about a 1/10th of what the stores do.
They have the spec's on their website

My friend recently got his new B&W 603's and subwoofer from these guys through an isurance claim. Aparently Audio Australia are one of the prefered suppliers of B&W, Harmon Kardon and JBL for these insurance mobs. They would not stock cable that was not approved by these manufacturers.

Firstly I think you mean Reactance.
Secondly, John, Resistance does not equal Impedance.
Thirdly, for speaker cable all you need to care about is Resistance. Basically the less resistance the better.
Here is another site that may help. Goto section 12.32

thanks to all for lots of pointers, got lot to read now. Of course, I
mean reactance in previous posting :)
