View Full Version : Seven you are a JOKE!

Inserting ads into this mornings live broadcast of the Opening Ceremony!
Specifically recorded the live version knowing the afternoon replay would be
butchered with ads, but the TURDS at Channel 7 couldn't help themselves even
this morning
First time in 20 years we've had a non-commercial free broadcast of an
Olympic Opening ceremony
Seven = wankers!

Actually, you are quite incorrect there. The 1984 Olympics were in
Sarajevo, Yugoslavia and seven actually did place commercials in their
broadcast. From memory, it wasn't live either.

Dunno about this year, but when TVNZ aired Sydney Opening Ceremony "live",
they inserted ads all the way through it, drawing its length out by over an
*hour*.
Over an hour? Hahaha.

Why? The Winter olympics are just as much of 'the olympics' as the
summer version. The OP was talking about the live airing of the
olympics - he didn't specify which one.

For what it's worth, I dragged out an old video (beta) of the opening
ceremony of the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo, and it was cut to pieces. At
one point, Bojan Krizaj came on stage to read the Athletes Oath, and
bang, seven went to a commercial for an upcoming movie, Dune. Never
heard of it. Then back to the olympics and Bojan Krizaj wasn't even on
stage. Instead we were shown Sandra Dubravcic as she was just about to
light the cauldron. They cut at least 20 minutes of vision in one
commercial break. Pathetic.

What costs? Seven isn't hosting the olympics you know. Greece is. How
much does it cost to send 4 commentators to Greece for a fortnight and
commentate to supplied vision?

But conversation has been about opening ceremonies for summer olympics ie
Sydney, Atlanta etc. Also the winter games are NEVER as big a deal as the
summer olympics.
Also as another poster pointed out ads are necessary because they are a
source of revenue and go to help offset the costs.

How else do you think they fund the extortionist costs for the broadcast
rights? They're not a charity! Olympic games these days is BIG business
and BIG money. Nothing to do with althetes or all that Olympic spirit crap
they harp on about... brought to you by Coke and Telstra.

Neither Coke or Telstra are sponsors of Seven's telecast. Tetley Tea
and Red Rooster and Bunnings are. Telstra sponsors the Australian
swimming team.

UUUUMMM that's not the only costs involved...........God do you really think
that's all that's involved in it...........what about cameramen, soundmen,
technicians, what about equipment, what about the use of the satellite to
get images here to Australia???????? It goes on and on.......

I'll explain it again, because you don't seem to get it. Seven don't
need to send cameramen, soundmen and technicians because all the vision
is supplied by the IOC. As for satellites, well, I bet you didn't know
this, but they were already there. They didn't have to lauch a special
one just for channel 7 you know.

My God your ignorance is appalling.............
I'LL explain it to YOU again.............. The OIC doesn't provide
television coverage or technicians or anything at all like that. All
television studios, networks etc provide their own staff. Some will
purchase the services of other networks to save sending their own staff. At
the moment there are staff in Athens including technicians, production crews
and media staff etc from NBC and ABC (US), BBC (UK) and many others. These
networks are all set up in the International Broadcast Centre. Among them
are over 100 Australians as Seven is producing ALL of the swimming coverage
for the entire IBC.
"400 people will be involved in the Australian television coverage with
major production and transmission centres in Athens and Melbourne creating
Seven's Olympic Games coverage.
More than 100 specialists from Seven will also play a critical role in the
global television coverage with Seven again contracted by an Olympic
broadcasting organisation to provide technology, crew and to produce
television coverage of all swimming, diving, water polo and synchronised
swimming events in Athens.
Seven's coverage will access 70 separate vision feeds into the network's
coordination centre - with 15 dedicated satellite vision and audio feeds
then forming the foundation for the coverage.
Seven will use 3,000 hours of satellite and digital video network time, and
while they will be live as much as they can, will also have 100 videotape
machines and be using 500 television monitors in addition to the global
television coverage technology."
Now present in Athens at the moment are : -
a.. 12,000 accredited production staff from international television
networks. 3,800 people creating the global television coverage (a total of
3,800 hours of live television).
As for satellites, well, I bet you didn't know
> this, but they were already there. They didn't have to lauch a special
> one just for channel 7 you know.
NO KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!......................but they have to pay for the
satellite time that they use and as most people would know that doesn't come
cheap. As stated above they have 15 dedicated satellite feeds. There are 30
satellites in the IBC "satellite farm".
You would have to be one of the most ignorant and stupid people on usenet.
