I heard the original PS2 SCPH 50002 console selling in Australia can not have a Mod Chip installed on it.(other Model like 50000,50001 etc is ok)
Is it true? Or is it just a rumour?

By original, I mean original made by Sony Company (Yeah normally the store in Sydney are selling the original one), so the 50002 I am referring to is the 50002 they selling now days (Like... today).

Last time I heard the current model PS2 couldnt be chipped.
If you google you'll find plenty of info on this stuff. Basically each time SONY tweaked and updated the PS2 they made it a little harder for modders to chip the system. Seems the recent models have made chipping a bit of a hassle. So u can either get an earler model or grab the newest model then wait & hope. Teh models in stores now are actually better crafted systems. Better drive mechanism, built in infra-red etc.
If you're more of an importer than a wannabe pirate - I suggest buying an NTSC system from somewhere like www.lik-sang.com NTSC games are getting cheaper to import these days and in the long run youre no worse off than if you'd got everything from your local Big W.
Anyway. Region lockout is wrong. Piracy is bad. Pity that wanting to get around the former sees some gamers dabble in the latter. Those without a PS2 should import. Same goes for future GCN owners (NTSC GC software is sooo cheap atm).

all versions of ps2's can now be modded, the new range of chips have been out for months, magic V, duo 2, mini 50k etc. the only problem with the 50002 (ver9) is that many people in the US complain that on approx 10% of units the dvd chip fails and they stop reading disc's. The 50002 can definately be modded, install is a bit more difficult than previous version.

my scph-50002 is chipped with a DMS V9 stealth chip which can be used online.
