Spoke to Seven Technical this morning, apparently they didn't repeat the HD
TX version when they repeated the opening ceremony SD version this morning,
they said it was too difficult. So if you didn't see it at 3.30am, you will
not get to see the opening at all in High Definition.

Further they have taken their HD service off-air altogether post the early
morning ceremony TX, so owners of decent sets & HD boxes can't even get a
high quality 576P version upconverted from the 4:3 576i SD feed from Athens.
Unbelievable !!!

While it wouldn't be true HD and it would still be 4:3 high quality, the
quality would still be better than the SD version as the up conversion would
be as far upstream compression wise as possible - eg. compare SBS's SD & HD
feeds where they are doing just that. At least SBS know how to run a
network. What a shame they are not the rights holder.

Seven's technical broadcast incompetence knows no bounds!!

HD is on in North Queensland, and look sas crappy as usual. But of course,
we don't have 7 Olympics Extra channel, just a 4:3 feed on 71.

interesting, 71 is 16:9 "program epg style" with a 4;3 video insert i
Melbourne - with the tickers and scrolling info sections, it is quite
distracting - verging on unwatchable. The graphic designer must have been
on speed when the concept was thought up. The HD is definitely down in Mel
& Syd, are you sure yours is HD - and not a pointer to the SD channel or is
theNth Qld Seven feed off satellite?

I think the idea is not to watch it except as a reference to latest updates
on the "all important" medal tally and other headlines.

In Canberra, the Tuggeranong translator is showing 3 identical views of the SD transmission - all without the additional graphics. I am able to also get Mt Taylor translator which has the regular broadcast, nothing on Prime View 1 and the graphics filled broadcast on Prime View 2.
