Perhaps its time that we all got together and wrote snail mail to LG and
other advertisers about this misrepresentation ?
Write snail mail to the major capital city newspapers about how slack ch 4+3
are... and don't just write about them, but other channels that play the
same stupid games that 16-9 does.

It may be worth noting here that ABC persons stated in this NG last year
that all their ads were going to be 16:9 regardless of the shows format?
I agree with this and we have been told.
I had a problem two years ago too with Samsungs "digitALL" promotion for
their TV's - it gave the impression that they were seeling iDTVs, and
they clearly weren't - they didn't even have a STB out then.
Any way the ABC has stated that all advertising is 16:9.
LG have stated they want to take Sony on with their advertising and
products - well they have the price right, now how about the same
quality control that Sony has LGE? (Lucky Goldstar Electonics - I kid
you not!)
Life's Good! LOL!!!!

Yeah, they used to use the "Goldstar" brand here.

The "Lucky" came from the Lucky Chemical Co., who merged with Goldstar to
become Lucky Goldstar, a.k.a. LG.
I recall a post from some wit, long ago (can't remember which group) which
said something like "28 days without an explosion - we're Lucky!"

Even when the ABC shows 16:9 material, they sometimes manage to stuff things
up; for example, the series finale of AbFab (don't ask) _began_ in 16:9, but
someone at the ABC switched it to 4:3 (complete with black bars left and
right) during the broadcast.
Most annoying (the ads and Dead Ringers straight afterwards were back to
16:9 ratio).
Cheers..

I noticed that too and was most annoyed. Not only did they show it in
4:3 but they centre cut the 16:9 vision, which meant we missed a lot of
the side action.
I was going to call them and complain, but I thought it would perhaps be
a wasted phone call at that hour of the night.
Who ever was responsible for that f*ck-up should have their bollocks
coated with toothpaste to remind them that it's important to some people
out there that a 16:9 program airs as such.
Perhaps some apprentice MUXer brushed past the ARC switch whilst buried
in the manual? :)
Thankfully these types of ARCing errors are rare on the ABC - I wish I
could say the same for SBS.
