G'day
I'm in the market for a DVD/HDD recorder, so I've been looking around a
bit at the various devices available - saw this model for the first time
in Hardly Normals on the weekend. Sexy looking unit, so I downloaded the
manual to see how it all goes together and it looks OK from what I've
read - very similar to all the others from Panasonic/Pioneer/LG etc.
Does anyone have one that can comment? I see they also have a 120 gig
unit, the 350 model I believe - any comments on this will also be
appreciated.
Regards,
Gary

Before you going spending your money on a HDD Dvd recorder consider an
alternative. The latest innovation in television recording etc. A
Topfield TF5000PVRt.
Goto the link below. I was going to do the same as you but luckily I
found a "Toppy" before spending my $1000, this thing is amazing. I
already have a good standard DVD burner (non HDD) and it will do for
the programmes I really want to keep. The most important thing to
remember is the quality of the Toppy's copy will always be better than
anything you will reach on a HDD DVD burner because the unit records
the full digital bitstream without conversion to analog which would be
required for a DVD recording. Let me know what you think and if you
need any questions answered about the unit.

Wrong Dickhead.
If you want to accuse people of being Spammers, just because they are
good enough to share info about stuff they have found then you are
going to be spending a lot of time writing silly letters like the last
one you wrote. I just bought the unit and use it. I want others to
find out about it because I think they will be just as happy with it
as I am. I have no affiliation with anyone or company so gets your
facts right OK. Jesus! Chill Out!!

The unit does not play DVDs It's a DSB and stores all it's data on a
120gig HDD for play back as needed. It has two tuners and buffers
about 2 hours of TV as you watch it. You can dub a copy down onto a
DVD burner (or tape)later if you wish but if you are like most people,
the majority of your recordings are for temp use only and therefore
can stay on the HDD until you decide to get rid of them. As I said the
copy on the Toppy HDD is direct digital with the full bitstream
recorded, not converted to analog as would be the case with even an up
market HDD dvd recorder. You have to see this to believe how clear it
is. Time shifting/replay has no loss whatsoever and you can even pause
and rewind LIVE tv. Something no DVD unit can offer. Click that link I
gave you and visit the forums section. There you can see what others
thinks as well. Most can't believe what the unit can do. I have had
one for about a week and am still finding out new things it can do.
In short it has already made HDD DVD players obsolete.

The Topfield is a good little unit, except for one small problem... you CAN'T connect any external source device to it. So, forget about recording Pay Tv. :(
You need to do some research before making statements like "Something no DVD
unit can offer.".

So far as I am aware, there is no DVD recorder on the market that
records the full digital broadcast bitstream onto it's HDD or the DVD.
Also, if there is a Settop Box that has a DVD burner built in then I
have yet to hear of it. I looked at many models in the range of $1000
to $2000 and nothing I saw came close. Obviously by your statement you
do know of such a beast so do tell.

Your statements about time shifting were wrong.
