Hi,
I finally worked out how to play DVDs on the PS2 without the picture being stretched!!
Play the actual movie for a few seconds, don't just view the credits or the title screen. Press stop once.
Then, bring up the setup menu, and then the screen options. Now you can adjust the screen size to 4:3 (or whatever size suits), whereas before playing the movie, this choice was locked.
Hope this helps!
Just wondering what the DVD playback quality (picture and sound) is like on the PSX2.
I'm thinking, now the DVD Region X plug in unit is available to allow multi-zone playback, I'm thinking of trading in my DVD player for a PSX2!
Any thoughts from people???

Hi gmc,
I've found the pic to be comparable to my DVD player, so no worries there.
The PS2 has a optical digital out, but I haven't bothered swapping cables with my DVD player, so I can't really say how the sound compares, but the composite RCA sounds great!
Make sure your amp has optical in, otherwise, you'll miss out on 5.1.
Remember that the PS2 has no Dolby Digital decoder on board, so you need to ensure that your amp does. If you're getting rid of your other player, I'd suggest getting a remote for the PS2, as it's a nuisance to operate the DVD controls thru' the controller.
Also, the PS2 doesn't support DTS.
If you do get a PS2, and you like shoot 'em ups, try Red Faction, it's a brilliant game!! :D

The PS2 does support DTS, The picture quaility is pretty good, but not as good as my Pioneer 737. The PS2 is also noisy thanks to the fan on the back. You will need to buy the remote, which will upgrade the DVD software that gets installed on your 8MB memory card.

Not really a reply. Just amused at ppl wanting to get rid of DVD player to use a PS2. Sort of like selling a car to ride a bus. Still gets you there but not as comfortable.
