View Full Version : LG HD Set Top Box by Redemption
The Captain

Picked up an LG RT42PX10 plasma screen today and part of the deal is an
LST-4100P set top box free via redemption. I will be posting off my
redemption certificate tomorrow, and am interested in feedback on how long
others have waited for the redemption to be fulfilled and for the set top
box to arrive.
Cheers

Took about 3 weeks for mine to arrive. 4 weeks seems to be about average for
most ppl i've heard from tho.

I saw them advertising HD-STBs on plasmas that only do 480 lines,
ie even less than 576-line SD. What a nasty deception.
That is bound to mislead consumers to thinking they are getting an
HD display.

Interesting. Just double-checked the specs on the freebie box, and it has
DVI/RGB capability of 1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i , so hopefully I get something
reasonable.
I am hoping for a less than 8 week delivery time if possible, as even after
just 24 hours, the sound/picture synching problem on FTA is bloody annoying
!

The LG Hi Def box has a few "issues" but NOT with LG displays. You should be
VERY pleased with the picture.

Have mine connected to a LG 50in Plasma via DVI, and not one problem in 2
weeks. Very happy with both units.

Sorry, I didn't mean the STB. Its the plasma screens that are bundled
with it. A low-def plasma (480-line) sold with a high-def (1080-line)
STB. Whats the point, if not to fool consumers into thinking that the
Plasma is high-definition, which it is not. The fact is its designed
for the US (NTSC) market, and has less resolution than any CRT
widescreen TV.

Yes I agree, all this HD ready shit is just that. Just because it says that,
doesn't automatically make it a "proper" HD set! Currently, if you pay less
than $8,000 for a plasma, chances are you don't have the full spec HD.
Totally misleading advertising going on here.

It doesn't matter what you pay, and there is no "chance", that any
plasma you buy at the moment can do "full spec HD". None of them
can do 1920x1080. Maybe in a couple of years they will but not at
the moment.

Aparantly also as the boxes are made by HUMAX the after sales support is
above average for LG, probably because they palm off customers to someone
who actually CARES about customer service.

I faxed my details to LG on 25/8 and received the HDSB today ! Haven't tried it out but am keen to see the great picture everyone is talking about..I'm going to compare component and DVI. I mainly watch DVD's and want to get a new DVD with progressive PAL scan and DVI to improve image quality.
