" . . . The Seven and Ten networks have previously called for the federal government to allow them to charge viewers for extra channels . . . "
What I don't understand is how Channel 7 or 10 propose to charge users to view extra channels when Digital STBs don't have slots for encryption cards. At least, mine doesn't.

They supply a new box just like foxtel & Austar. Yet another box to stick on
top of your TV,.

Oh, great! Another device to plug-in to another piggy backed powerboard in order to consume more electricity. Would be all worth it if the content on the extra channels were remotely going to be entertaining.

What I don't understand is the above quote doesn't actually appear in
the Age article in the link.....but this does;
"The Seven and Ten networks have previously called for the federal
government to allow them to charge viewers for extra channels, however
the Nine network is against multi-channelling."
and
"The ACCC submission notes that Australian viewers are currently
restricted in their viewing options compared to overseas audiences."

The new box would replace your existing DTV box. TopUpTV in UK only works on
subscription capable boxes and IDTVs. If you haven't got one, you have to
get one. USDTV in the US is the same.

But you wouldn't have it aswell as your Digtal FTA box, it would replace it!
Still a nutty idea if you ask me, take a look at what happened to ITV
digital.
