View Full Version : New format Foxtel Magazine looks good
Dewgan Legend

I received the new format combined Analogue/Digital magazine yesterday and
was pleasantly surprised.
There are now 5 pages per day, with some of the digital only channels
included.
News and music have two pages each and appear at the start of the program
section, making them much easier to find.

I agree, people are just whingers, the mag is great, and if that fails you
have the online guide, or the EPG.

I concur.
Despite some teething troubles with the layout, the mag is a welcome change.

I like it. My only complaint is that the program guide only lists the date
on not the day. For instant if you want to look at what is on every Saturday
you can't without referring to a calendar.

That was my complaint until I realised that Sat and Sun pages are
headed in dark blue. Still doesn't make it easy for the rest of the
week, but I guess I can cope counting back (or forward) from the
weekend.

Easy on the eye at first pass. Look more closely though:
It's a pack of self-promotional tripe - 60 (YES 60) pages of advertising and
soft-journalism 'these are all great to watch programs' at the front.
Basics like A-Z movie guide are missing.
The "Music" programming is all generic - no details about who's playing in
the specials etc.
The actual program listings are a poorly laid out jumbled mess. Obviously
done in a hurry after staff numbers were pared in order to trim costs.

You don't have the online guide or the EPG if you are on original satellite.
For the majority of Foxtel subscribers the new magazine format is pathetic.

Teething troubles? How many years have they been producing the mag? There
should be no teething troubles.

This is a screw up that Foxtel have said they will fix next month.

You're obviously easily pleased. The daily listings for each channel are now
jammed into 17.2% less space than they were previously. There's no way you
can fit the same amount of information in. The shading and column time
alignments that allowed you to quickly scan across channels to see what
programs were on at the same time has gone. At the same time advertising
space on each page has increased by 31.2%, even though on 58 pages most of
that extra space is now blank and the 12 page A-Z of movies has been replied
by a 1.5 page highlights section that is useless.
Although most Foxtel subscribers don't have the new digital service a large
chunk of the advertising area in the program listings is dedicated to help
for Digital users, who Foxtel apparently see as complete morons. For
example, on page 7 they introduce "Lil' Red" but in the program listings
there are no less than 23 repeated "Who is LIL' RED" ads and 30 "Digital
Hints & Tips" explaining how to use FBO. Amazingly there is even one (with a
repeat later on!) explaining proper care procedures for the smartcard (p154
& p214) that most people never remove from the STU (that's in the help!) and
another introducing the remote control (p168), as if a remote control was a
new thing that none of us has ever seen before.
And of course there is the added "bonus" that even though we have reduced
program listings for existing channels and lost the A-Z movie guide we get
to pay 50% more for the mag each month, just so the people who have Digital
can get 30 pages of program listings.

I'm complaining about a product that I pay for. That's the right of any
consumer, especially when the quality of the product has decreased and the
price has gone up. Whether or not it is a TV guide is irrelevant.
and
> there other options to find out whats on
Not for my wife who is computer illiterate. She relies on the printed guide,
as do a great many people. If people don't complain, it won't get fixed.

Yes. Not everybody has one though. As I pointed out in an earlier post you
