I can't get a On Screen Display working and it's stuck on channel 9 (sd melb) pressing the v.format button does nothing. I would like to reset to factory default if it is at all possible? Nothing I can see in the manual. I'll leave it unplugged overnight and see if that helps. Any suggestions?

thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

From what I can gather, the problem that you are experiencing is similar to what happened to me.

I think that what you have done is gone into the INSTALLATION menu, selected VIDEO SET UP and further selected HD OUTPUT FORMAT. From there you have the choices "PAL", "AUTO" and "1080i (or High definition)". I suspect that you have selected "1080i" from this menu and that was when your problem has occured.

I discovered this whilst setting my unit up. I have my 1080i capable projector (Sony HS10) connected to the component outputs of the S25 and my TV (4:3 screen - not capable of 1080i) connected to the 'S' output of the S25. I engaged the 1080i setting in the menu and continued with other aspects of the set up. On eventually switching the projector off, I used the TV as my display to continue exploring the new toy.

To my horror, I encountered exactly the problem that you are describing - no 'On screen displays' whatsoever. Not able to change channels, etc. I did the obvious and disconnected the power etc, all to no avail. I was just about to discinnect the S25 and take it back to the retailer when it occured to me to switch on the projector to see if the component output was also effected.

When the projector came up it was operating as normal with all OSD's and menus fully accessible. I experimented by re-setting the HD OUTPUT in the menu to PAL and the OSD's returned to the TV.

As mentioned, I would suspect the you are running a 'non 1080i' TV or display device and have set the output to '1080i' and now have no way of getting it back to the original setting.

It seems that either the OSD's are not only output via component in 1080i mode or the downscaled image that is sent to the 'S' and 'Component' outputs cnanot re-size the OSD's so they do not appear.

Unless anybody else knows of another way (there is no mention in the manual), I can only suggest that you connect your S25 to the component terminals of your display device (TV or whatever it is) and run it this way or re-set the HD OUTPUT setting. If your TV does not have the component inputs, you can't view 1080i anyway and will neeed to have the S25 set back. Perhaps take it down to your retailer who may have some 1080i capable devices in their showroom and get them to hook yours up. From there you can re-set the HD OUTPUT.

It seems a strange condition for this otherwise excellent unit but seen from Toshiba's point of view, the user shouldn't be swithing the output to 1080i without a compatible display device. Whilst this is a reasonable argument it does not take into account the nature of all of us to want to explore a new toy and try all settings - perhaps a warning in the manual would have been handy.

I hope that this rather long winded explaination helps you tio understand what I believe your problem to be and some possible remedies. Of course if it turns out to be something else or there is another way around it, please let us all know.

Good luck with it.

Denis

I too had this problem on Saturday night, the channel just got stuck on
channel 9, with the blue channel banner with now and next info stuck as
well.

Rebooted the system, and quickly flicked to another channel and that was OK,
then I flicked back to channel 9 and it was stuck on this channel again,
with the now/next info, the channel was still working.

I just turned off the machine at the power point left it off overnight, and
then turned on Sunday, and all is well, no problems since.

This is my second s25 box, the first one did this all the time when on
channel 90, nine's HD channel, but exchanged it for this one, have had no
problems for 2 months except for Saturday, so very strange.

During the day when I was watching the AFL on 10, I did muck around with the
V button, but then settled on auto-pal format, and had no problems until
Saturday night.

Very strange

I had the same problem at the same time and fixed it the same way.

Obviously there's at least one time-dependent bug in this box :-(
