Well I apologize to those of you whom I tried to convince the ATHENS HOST
BROADCASTER would be TOTALLY 16:9.
Having had a week long holiday on Kythera after my weightlifting sojourn, i
have arrived home to answer my emails. and to address this news group.
Due in main to the lack of 16:9 cameras available for this game period,
there was a mixture of 16:9 & 4:3 over the olympic Games.
however, fortumately they were all 625i SDi digital capable and that is what
was delivered to the International Broadcast Centre in Athens. What each
Rights Holder requested after that point was up to the individual country.

i.e. at Weightlifting I was providing a 4:3 625i SDi MULTILATERAL signal to
the IBC for general distribution to the world.

In addidtion I provided fibre paths for the following rights holders:
NBC, ATV, CCTV, ERT, AZTV, [who worked in analogue and up converted prior to
fibre insertion], as well as Satellite uplinks to ERT2, and Turkish TV.

Having said that, I was pleased to provide good clean stable signals
throughout the 10 days of competition of the weightlifting.

Bring on the Torino Olympics where we hope to provide the FIRST all Hi Def
TV of all events. This meaningless improvment over SDi is being driven by
the American marketing people who are managing to convince the viewers that
they "need" Hi Def Digital TV. Any improvement over 525 NTSC is acceptible.
To demand 1080i as a minimum will only line the pockets of the manufacturers
of Hi Def screens.

Huh??? Sounds like someone who has never seen quality 1080i or 720p on a hd
screen... Meaningless? My Ass!

Thanks for this informative post.

I agree with you about the marketing of Hi-Def too. I can only mean good
things for us all, even the SD v happy viewers ;)
