:) Hi, Yes you can, I have been using some CD disc cleaner stuff that I have had for years, and have cleaned DVD's the same method that the packaging suggested to clean CD"s.(apply compound to disc, wipe on with circular motion, allow to dry and then wipe with a soft cloth.
I have cleaned many rental DVD's that have skipped etc and they have played fine .Be aware though,if your disc has deep scratches i don't think that any cleaner will help.

cheers
Chris:) :)

re .. "wipe on with circular motion"

Aren't you supposed to wipe from the centre to the edge in a straight line?

Im agreeing with u Ron...... Look in the manual 4 your DVD player, and it has a picture showing to wipe from the centre, to the outside, as circular motion can produce scratches.......

Maybe you are both right, using a circular motion works for me so I stick with it.

I work at a video store and some b@stard returned Tomb Raider scratched to buggery. So after charging him $50...

We have a "machine" that gets out scratches by shaving the plastic layers. Obviously if the scratch is too deep or if it has pierced the metal then you're stuffed, but otherwise it does the job.

Tomb Raider now works perfectly.

DVDs & CDs can tolerate light scratches depending on the level of error correction, circular scratches usually pose the greatest threat because of the greater amount of continuous unreadible data passing beneath the laser. This is maybe why the manufacturers recommend cleaning from the middle the outside, so if any scratches are created they are the least damaging variety :)
